H & Jesse pulling rafters on shed to Granary - this morning

24th worming & succoring Tobacco till 10 Oclock & went to Grubbing & cutting Mrs Mary Moseley Died wednesday evening 22nd day of augt & buried at Mr Jno D Hunts on Friday 24th Aug 1855

25 Halling Log to Mill Yates saw mill this morning waggon & Cart

Sept 2nd went to association at Sandy Creek MH near Milton, this week, We were while I was gone Ditching toping worming & succoring Tobacco & Shrubing Corn Land

3rd Toping worming & succoring Tobacco this morning & then to pulling fodder Jerry is Sick Dr Tho mpson been to see him Twice & Johnson 2 times & me once, - Sent to mill 8 bushels Corn for meal & get 2 Bags 4 Bus. there ground last week Henry got Shingles one or 2 days

13th From the 1st of this month we have been attending to Tobacco pulling fodder Cutting Tops Mr Evans Ditching etc etc I went over to Bolletot school gone 4 days don't like the Country at all Jacob here a day or Two ago to see us & get his cloth to make his winter clothes James M Fitzgerald gone to Springs we are gathering in Our Blades Stacking etc etc worming & succoring Tobacco

24th Cutting Tobacco last week part of week, stacked all our Blade fodder wormed & succored over tobacco I went to meeting at Strait Stone till wednesday & then I was taken sick & have been ever since Mr Fitzgerald has returned Springs no better from

1856 July 5 I have this week been to Bottetourt School Brot Kate Home from Hollins Institute - at home they have been weeding tobacco choping out Corn & Laying by corn Sandy still very Low Doct Thompson here yesterday to see him etc etc,- they are this evening finishing at stony pint weeding Tobacco

9th Since the 5th we have Plowed a little been trying to Cut Oats Since Monday & Rained nearly all day yesterday Tuesday Bro Hunt Sent Henry & he cut ½ day Monday & stayed till Tuesday & Rained So I sent Him home Fanny W F. Sent Arch Monday Cut ½ the day monday none yesterday but striped Tobacco, this morning cutting Oats Abra ham Crews come too,- Jordan & Lowry Plowing Fed & abram weeding Tobacco at Stony Point cleared off

10th Henry, arch & Abram Crews Cut Oats yesterday & Henry Abram Crews & Jacob Cutting this morning & trying to get done by 12 oclock very raining Lowry & claiborne Plowing all the rest in Oat field,- cloudy & likely for Rain Mr Hunts Henry Cut Oats ½ Arch Cut Oats 1½ day 1 day striped Tobacco & ½ weeded not do much on acct of its raining, ground very wet Finished Cutting Oats 12 oclock ¬

11th Lowry & claiborne Plowing Balance hilling up Tobacco on Branch & new ground Henry gone to Mill 8 Bus corn& 3[?] Bus wheat for flour Bro Hunt Sent this morning to help us Cut oats & we are done, ¬— Doct thompson came to see Jordan again.- Alex Goodman stayed

11th at night warm & cloudy

12 Hilling up new ground Tobacco & trying to finish Laying by corn a little after 12 oclock to day

17 Sept fixing to Cut Tobacco, etc worming & succoring fresh ground Tobacco Mr W Adams Sets in to work for me this day Protracted meeting going on at S. S. M. H. cloudy & like for Rain, —

18th Cutting & hanging Tobacco in fresh ground and tying up & stacking fodder — meeting going on all this week at S S M H 10 or 11 mourners Mr Witherington with us

21st Great meeting at Strait Stone some 8 or ten professed & to day 7. I think Baptised by Bro. Maran Bro Witherington with us none has given in that professed at this meeting yet

22nd Julia Boyd came here yesterday to go to meeting Sent her home this morning – Housing Tobacco in new prize Barn to day Pulling fodder not quite done put 3 or 400 stacks of Tobacco in new prize Barn -

23 Housing Tobacco this morning – cloudy & like for rain —

24th Cut & Piled Tobacco all day

25th Cut Piled Tobacco all day & finished all the ripe Tobacco, no frost to bit tho 2 mornings Smart frost & quite Cool

26th Hanging Tobacco to day & typing up fodder Fair & cool, my wife Started up to Fannies & I sent Clem to stay till next Tuesday 30 Kate has been complaining ever since she went to Bottetourt about 4th Inst Sept 1856

27th Hanging Tobacco in Lot & as busy as we have been all the week Adams has not hung any Tobacco at night or tyed up any [water stain]

27th Sept weather moderated a little clear good weather, have only housed one House Tobacco yet and that is cured nearly -

29 like for rain gathered apples this morning worming & succoring Tobacco over, Henry & Jordan cutting stacks & going to Mill Dews & yates Jordan carrd 2 Bags 1 Bbl Corn & 1 Log to yates for Sheeeting Henry card 2 to Dews 1 20 & 1 16 feet

30th Sept Fine rain last night & evening ¬ Housing Tobacco in Lot as Tobacco scaffold fell down, Jordan Halled Load wood. My young Red Steer Out yet. got up Bull Henry got last evening 12 Plank from Mr Dews Saw Mill for 2 we card 1 20 feet & 1 16 feet long 1 Big & the other Tolerable –

Oct 1st Cutting & Piling Tobacco for frost & finished all we have –

2nd To day Housing, filled nearly 5 Houses full gathered pumpkins Digging Irish Potatoes - etc etc ¬ Filled 5 Houses of Tobacco - 5258 stacks hung up all together, firing at this time ¬red Irish Potatoes fine balance sorry - - - — Put my He sheep with the flock yesterday

3rd Oct Firing Tobacco Halling wood to Barns & Stacking Our Tops at this time Jacob has gone to Meadsville to day - - and expect to finish tops began yesterday. warm weather weather very cold about wednesday last & we ¬¬–– Turned in & cut all our Tobacco & now its very moderate weather Kate at school we understand is getting well

4 Finished Toping stacks sent Log to yates 14 long 4½ Bus for ourselves 2 Bushels wheat for overseer & 2½ Bus wheat for Mr Thos J Boyd

5th Fine day Sunday – Jacob gone to Meadsville

6 Henry started to Lynchg with upwards of 40 Bushels wheat, wheat weighed 62 & 64 lbs [water stain] Bushel

Oct 12th It Rained this day firing Tobacco etc

– 13th I went to Cedar Hill had the House washed out gathered some apples cutting down corn, Jacob gone to Lynchg - here & they are Housing our last Cutting filled new Barn firing 3, & had to carry some of new ground to mountain Barn,

14th Began to Plow for wheat yesterday in Lot Sewing to day firing Tobacco, getting succors & Knocking Tobacco stubble after plows, etc. overseer made Barn door yesterday Hung it etc etc Mr Hunts John came here this morning to Build overseers house chimney Buck Halling wood & Rails this evening

15th Sent cart to shop to have Tire Cut this morning on one wheel Mr Chumbly sent 2 Bus wheat & I sent 4 Bushels Corn to mill we are sewing wheat etc cleaning out Trenches. Lowry came down last night to Sew wheat. Finishing firing Tobacco to day John Jordan & little Henry building chimny

16th Buck carrying shingles to Cedar Hill carrd 32 lbs Bacon in 6 lb Bacon for Kitty & Fed till 24th or 25. Balance for working etc,- Cutting down ^ corn up there sewing wheat here cutting down corn etc working on chimny etc

17th Stayed at home this day -

18 went to Court on by Cedar Hill & Mr Hunts to get Kates school acct & failed to get it etc Sewing wheat here etc finished up at Chumbleys sewing Corn Land

19th Mr Wyatt not at Cedar Hill yet halled 2 Loads shingles up there to day
