1857 Sept 19th & 20th Went to meeting our folks Tyed up fodder & cutting tops till it rained & wormed & succored Tobacco till night on Saturday Fannie WF. & Kate S & Jeremiah W Graves gave in their experience & on Sunday the 20th was Baptised by Bro Mason, Little Jerry got a fall after carriage & hurt himself very much and sick very Ill & on MondayFuneral Preached by Elder JB Hardwick 2nd Saml 12 Ch 23rd V. 21st Died about 2 Oclock

21st. Wormed & succoring Tobacco Cut tops pt of day

22nd Rained nearly all day carried Jerry to Capt Fitzgeralds, worming & succoring Tobacco

23rd Began to Cut Tobacco & attended to fodder at mountain, cleared off very pretty & Mr Hardwick Preached Jerrys Funeral & he was Buried Cutting Tobacco & Hung all Jerrys & Nannies & began to Cut at Johns Branch Cut 950 stacks Johns branch opened Fodder etc

24th Cutting Tobacco on Johns s branch Henry took all day to go to carry Fannie home stacked only 1 stack fodder - last night

25. Worming & succoring at new ground opened Fodder Jordan gone to mill 5 Bus corn Sandy Cutting scaffold at Johns branch Henry & claiborne fixing new Barn to put Tobacco in

25th Finished this morning cutting & hanging Johns branch first cutting wormed & succored Tobacco at mountain in morning Sent to mill 5 Bus corn for meal, stacked fodder last night & sent Robin & Clay to shop etc

26th moving Tobacco from old prize Barn to new wormed & succored at new ground Sent Fillmore to shop greased horses for snits this day Calf has got his Leg Broke

26th Sept 1857 Cutting Tobacco next to Crews & Lot to day ¬– – – fine weather Cut in fresh ground next to crews 950- Lot 260 stacks = 27th Went to Mrs Tuckers funeral failed to go to Sunday School

28th We are Pulling fodder to day mountain & stoney pint & expect to finish - clear fine weather at this time Malissa at work [out?] Finished pulling & cut tops in evening at night put in some Tobacco of Nannies & Jerrys in old prize Barn Daubed weaving House

29th worming & succoring Tobacco at new ground in morning. Then Cutting Tops trying to finish Raising primings in new prize Barn clear fine morning - - one calf has his leg Broke some how

30 Finished cutting Tops & tied up nearly all. Tyed up Blade fodder & tops last night till after 9 Oclock - a little Frost this morning - quite Cool

31 Cutting Tobacco to day at new ground wormed in new ground in morning opened Blade fodder Tyed up Tops & Blades at night but Did get done, Smart Frost this morning Oct

1st Oct Housing Johns Branch Tobacco Tobacco worming & succoring new ground this morning & then we will cut at new ground —

2nd Housed fresh ground Tobacco in new Barn next to Mr Crews this morning began at 3 Oclock Stack fodder at stoney pint 2 stacks & finished Cutting at new ground Cut nearly 4000 stacks in all worming & succoring over & Halled Load from new ground for new Barn & still not full

1858 March 19th. Fencing new ground by Chumblys & Halling leaves on Irish Potatoe Patch, Began to Sew Oats to day - at mountain like for Rain

20th Fencing at Mount Spring new ground &Fine day John Shields buried at Mr Neals Sewing Oats on Mountain field -

21st Fine day John Shields buried at Mr Neals Rained Saturday night & Sunday morning Jordan helped Dig grave at Mr Neals

22nd Shrubing & pilling Rails at Overseers Jordan & Buck Halling Rails around Corn field & finished halling around Granary lot & at yard fence etc - cloudy & like for Rain Sewing Oats at mountain field & trying to finish there then evening, If possible

23rd Rolled Logs up at overseers House & finished about 10 or 11 Oclock, Rained last night, burning up Logs Trash, etc, & Sewing Oats & finishing at mountain field about 1 Oclock to day - 12 Bushels Sewed there,- Milly cow bot at Mrs Smiths Sale had a Bull Heifer calf last night,Cloudy & like for falling weather to day Jordan halling a few more Rails about Spring & at new fence Joining mountain field this evening.- balance attending to Log heaps etc at overseers House this evening —

24th Piling wood & Halling out Rails at mountain Spring. Sewing Oats at stoney pint. I went to Jacobs. they are Sewing Oats & Hilling there Fine weather about this time,–

25. Covered & manured Plant Beds above house Piling Rails & wood at Do fencing out there & finished it to day sewing oats at stoney pint Put up Bars at new ground to day

26th Begun to colter at overseers Piling wood & Rails in new ground to day.

1858 June 1st Fine Rain last night & We are Beding & planting our Lot. & will replant all we have planted, turned quite warm, Chumblys wife very sick & he is complaining

2nd Nannie & me went to Mr Hunts again Mrs Hunt is very Low Bushed wheat by new Barn Plowing & weeding Corn by Malissas House Jordan finished Crossing new ground & began to drag it over to day

3rd we are this worming Tobacco at Johnss branch Plowing & weeding Corn this morning, cloudy & like for Rain, Jordan will finish draging new ground to day & Reckon — Rained Several hours & we shelled corn etc

4th Jacob come down last evening after plants To plant, claiborne & little helping to draw. Sent to Yates Mill 6 Bags 12 Bus Corn for ourselves & 4 Bushels for Chumbly for meal We are choping laying off & fixing planting our new ground Tobacco to day Nannie still at Mr Hunts,who wife -- who is very low Sent Pal with Jacob to drop plants to day Cloudy & like for more Rain,— got all the meal Mr Little came here wednesday to round & Joist Shingles @ 75 cents a thousand worked when It was not raining hard Thursday taken sick that evening & left sick Friday morning, not ½ done

5th cloudy & like for Rain Laying off Hilling & Planting Our new ground at mountain Spring, taken Sow & & Pigs from mountain Spring this morning Nannie has been at Mr Hunts nearly all this week & she Died yesterday about 1 Oclock & I expect she will be buried to day

6th went to Sunday School to day

7th drawing Plants & will Finish planting this morning, Boar out in woods at this time,

1858 June 7th Cloudy & like for Rain, foggy — — 8th Thined corn last evening plowing corn Jordan halled 2 Loads of wood 2 Loads leaves for & 1 stack Blade fodder & Turned out steers in Pasture – This morning weeding corn by malissas House Plowing Henry Coltering cotton & Irish Potatoes & Greens in Garden, I went to Pigs Jacobs & Jno Shields & Jas Shields to make arrangements to Carry Faris Tobacco to anderson & am to give scruggs & shields $2.50 a Load-, Plowing & weeding corn at this

9th time put out some good Tobacco to sun Nannie gone to Mrs Hunts, Sent Jordan to dig grave at Mr Neals for Robys child to day - took in Tobacco at night

10th Henry Coltering corn Jordan Sandy & claiborne throwing Dirt from corn balance weeding after Henry cloudy this morning

11th Plowing & weeding corn, I went to Riceville to Carry Faris Tobacco & delivered to anderson 2600 & some pounds as Recd [sh?] @8$ —

12, This morning drawing plants & replanting till it rained It began to rain about 7 or 8 oclock & Rained tremendous hard 2 or 3 hours they finished replanting Johnss Branch, in morning & finished replanting all but Lot by alse house

13th Rained a little to day went to meeting & Sunday School. Johns children 3 of them came here, Henry complaining at this time & I gave him a dose of medicine last night

14th Raining this morning cleaning out Tobacco Barns etc Hung up our Bacon this morning Finished replanting Tobacco & thining corn

15. Plowing & weeding corn, cleared of[f] very pretty Sent Jerry to Andersons after money for Faris Tobacco & my Lugs, got no money at all
