1859 April 16th Finished planting corn to day, made Box for cellar fire place & Mr Chummy laid the Hearth, & fixed the place in setting Room, John nearly finished the chimney except pencilling the bottom, Halled 1 Load of wood, & took downPoles- etc at chimney - John has been here at work on chimney 5¾ days,-

17th Snowing this morning like all the world Several Inches deep turned cooler

18. Went to court yesterday qualified as Exer of the Estate of J D Hunt Decd. Halling wood in morning then went to Halling & Coltering in second years ground, Tuesday 19th I went to Gran field to Mrs Pannills son Wms Funeral Plowing & Hilling —

[2]0 Wednesday went to aspen Grove, Hilling & Coltering - fine weather at this time

21st Went Mrs Hunt to see Mr Hubbard Settle with Yates etc etc Coltering till 12 Oclock Halling out manure & Hilling all day — Nannie gone to Mrs Fitzgeralds to day —

22 Coltering & Hilling till it Rained about 12 Oclock then Halling wood cutting & malling wood, Riving Tobacco sticks & clem spining. I went down to work on Road from Camp Branch to good Hope, finished about 12 oclock, Nannie got home this day, about 2 Oclock this evening

23rd Rained again last night, Sent to Mill for overseer, Halling wood & manure to day Riving Tobacco Cutting & splitting wood. Turned very cool last night & the wind blows Hard & cold I went to Cedar Forest to warrant vs Est J D Hunt Decd etc had Bill shod at yates behind etc etc.

28 Hilling up fresh ground Tobacco since we went to Lynchg & framing Top of Tobacco House, look for my waggon back to day made the trip in 3 days & a little over very dry & Hot, nights cool every thing burning up hear, [here]- Henry got home time enough to Carry the waggon home Sent Jenny home, this evening —

29th Plowing & Hilling up Lot Tobacco To day - Dry & Hot this day — nights cool

30 Plowing & Hilling up Tobacco Sewed Guano on Lot at this time — Dry & Hot days very cool nights indeed. every things looks like drying up, - Sent Charles Allen to shop & he stayed all day nearly sent little Henry in eveningafter Bob worked here Tuesday & Wednesday of this week gone all the balance somewhere

31st went to Lynch Johns Funeral & the Revrd Mr KirkPatrick, & a Poor sermon it was

Monday 1st Augt 1859. Mrs Hunt left for Bed= ford this morning, began to machine Wheat at Aspen Grove, Clem & Jerry at work in Lot Hilling up Tobacco - Hot & Dry at& No Rain for a long time, nights cool

2nd Trying to Finish mach[in]ing wheat at aspen Grove to day & get home before night finished

3rd Sent 2½ Bushels wheat to Farris s Mill this morning Fixing down machine making Table etc working our Lot Tobacco, not finished that Dry & Hot very dry- corn nearly dryed upon high land

1859 Augt 17th Bob here this morning 3 days this week, began to cover barn this morning balance cutting down Pines - cloudy & like for Rain this morning - Capt Pallison Boxley Died 7th day of this month Augt 1859 at Mr Poindexters where he has lived about 2 years Recd letter from Cousin Jos C Boxley stating this -

18th went to meeting Mr Chumbly & Henry covering Tobacco House balance cutting down Pines very dry & Cool of nights,-

19th Shingling House Tobacco Barn little Henry & Jerry Smith Cutting Pines Henry went to meeting House to day Rhoda nor Lila did not want to go. claiborne & clem went Wednesday & they all went from Plantation

20 Sent Henry & claiborne to help Raise Barn at Mr Hunts place, chummy & little Henry at work on Barn finished covering & at work on Bonnetts of Barn clem spining

21. Fannie W. & Billie Jones stayed here last night & to day Mrs clements & Johns children here Chip & George Coleman also. Still dry &cool

22nd chumney going to look for a place to live at lent him a Horse Henry toping Tobacco Balance worming & succorring fresh ground Bob came here this morning -

1860 April 30th Planted Cotton water mellons Simblings cucumbers Egyptian wheat & Broom Corn seed & fixed Land for Irish Potatoes.- Mrs Hunt went to Court House to day & Nannie Clement with her & Rhoda

May 1st. Sent to work on Road to day Rained & they back by Twelve Oclock & we went to striping Tobacco & Will finish what we had down

2nd went to work on road again & it rained & stoped them, Halled 4 Loads wood & then making Brooms & Spining Rained. I went to Aspen Grove they were prizing Tobacco & doing but little Found Federick very sick, & left him so.

3rd Federick Died last night about 3 Oclock & Buried him this evening - finished working here to day claiborne went to aspen Grove to help Dig Grave, Halling leaves Bushing Oats, & Hilling etc etc — Mrs Hunt returned this evening from CH.

4th Halling out Trash out of new ground Rails & wood. Hilling Picking Plant Beds etc —

5. Planted Peas Irish Potatoes for Cate use & Coltering in new ground fine weather Mr Moses here on Saturday evening & Sallie

6th Left & went home, Robt Clifton of Mr Hunts Est Buried to day = Doron has been here for 2 days - Doct Steptoe attended on child that Died

7th Replanting Corn weeding Oats & coltering new ground nearly done 1 way -. Doron gone

8 Hilling & Coltering. Halling out manure

9th Halling manure Hilling in new ground

10. Raining, Halling,- Rails Planting greens Beets etc,- etc,- began to Plow Corn

11 Took down our Lugs here this morning & last evening began to Plow corn yesterday Cut our Calves & marked yearlings

1860 May 31st Replanted Tobacco to day all over,- Thinning corn & nearly finished that going to Plowing this evening, Elvira & Amy very sick with dissentary Sent for Doct Thompson yesterday & this evening again

June 1st Halled Brick for Dining room floor this morning & Lathes to lath Dining room. Fair & clear to day - Bob has been here all this week, weeding corn next to Capt Whiteheads., Mrs Hunt rested tolerable last night, this morning very bad off indeed Mr Faris here yet put up mantle in Dining room this morning - fair & clear weather Mrs Lucy A Clement has been sick about 10 or 12 days & Died to day about 2 Oclock, with congestion in Bowels so I hear - nanny went up there to day

2nd I went to aspen Grove sheared sheep Killed One Lamb Mrs Clements buried today. Amy my little negroe Daughter of Clementina Died to day with bowel Complaint Elvira very Sick. Doct Martin was here & went to see them both. said he did not consider them dangerous

3rd Amy Buried to day Elvira very sick yet Doct Thompson came to day, Mrs Coleman Mr & Mrs Hargrave Come here to day Rained this evening. Mrs Hunt is very bad off yet. - quite sick all day to day -

4th June Bob here, John Came to fix Dining room, Mrs Hargrave staied last night with her Ma, Mrs Coleman here yesterday cloudy & Rainy this morning, Henry Halling up leaves in stables, - etc - working Sweet Potatoes Peas Cotton & Corn Henry & Harry Plowing in corn in Lot; my Horse Lame for several days. -
