In the Swapt got a watch silver $30. Guarde & Key $2½ 1 Breast Pen & Ear Rings $11 & 1 Breast Pin for my wife $7 - pd 3/- The Horse I got 12 or 13 years old — Works well etc - cloudy & like for Rain

7th Sent Henry & Jerry Smith to aspen Grove for a Lamb, Hilling up Tobacco in the near new ground. Planted cucumbers yesterday for Pickling - Mrs Hunt came back yesterday & bob gone to CH after Mrs Hargrave & Nannie to come down to Mrs Clements Funeral, = Mrs Hunt slept well last night,- cloudy weather

8th Rained a little this morning & cloudy all day the hands from Hunts plantation helped us 3 or 4 Hours this morning strip Tobacco we are striping all day Charles gone to Post office in evening. Mrs Clements Funeral appointed for Tomorrow so cloudy & Rainy I did not got to meeting to S S. to day Bob gone to CH yesterday after Mrs Hargrave etc - etc

9th cloudy & like for Rain this morning we are about to start to the Funeral of Mrs Clements on our return Mr Penick & his wife he Preached the Funeral, Mr Hargrave & his family Mr Overby & his son Isaac, Fannie W Fitzgerald, & Edd & all their Horses Dined here, & Bob & Mrs Hunts Horses - quite cool to day Bob Cutting oats in evening Mrs Hunt & Mrs Hargrave came here about 10 oclock Mr J Shields & son Wm helped us about oats to day did not get done. Hot & dry Hot & Dry yet Finished Cutting oats this morning

24th Bob Sick & Mrs Hunt Complaining went down to aspen Grove Thrashing wheat sent 4 hands & my Horses. did not get done clem & charles at home Shrubing Corn Land Plowed up Turnip Patch fine weather

25th Finishing Thrashing wheat at aspen Grove Machine will go to Mrs Pannills to day Hired Ben to go with it @ $8 pr month Mr Wright came here to work on yard this morning – fine weather this morning I have got Lucy bot from Fannie & like her very well to ride

26th machine at Mrs Pannills Mr Wright here, Halling manure on Turnip Patch this morning choping & hilling up Tobacco Second time, next to Whiteheads,- Jerry went to see Isaac overbyyesterday

27th Finished Thrashing at Mrs Pannills & got to James McHaneys about 2 Oclock, had to feed Horses & fix got out one stack this day

27. Machine at James McHaneys getting out wheat Ben with it at home striping Tobacco Mr Wright here fixing & work on Railing. Mr Cothran met met me yesterday to help fix down machine - cloudy & like for Rain this morning machine went to John Shields from McHaney did not do any thing at all

28th last evening a fine shower of rain about 10 Oclock Mrs Coleman Sent for Nannie I went with her got back about 1 oclock quite unwell to day myself, gave Mrs Coleman a dose of Calomel, went to Chumneys this morning Sent to yates to have hischild coffin made

1860 August 18. Worming & succoring Tobacco this morning Henry gone to Aspen Grove to get 10 Bushels wheat, 8 for flour 2 to eat for negroes carried 2 Bus. Corn, & 1 stack to make square edge Plank & sheeting all to yates, etc — Hot day —

19th we all went down to aspen Grove except Jerry who went to St Andrews to meeting

20. Jerry & myself went to Court. Our Folks choped up the Grass & covered plant Beds & then went to Toping worming & succoring Tobacco next to Whiteheads

21st Toping worming & succoring Tobacco Mr Wright came here yesterday morning Monday to work on yard at it again to day

22nd Started waggon with 2 Hdds Tobacco from aspen Grove, Jerry gone with it gave him $6 - 2 Bushels corn in Ears & oats & fodder Mr Wright here again Mrs Hunt started from here this morning for Mr Browns & come back in evening, - Doct Thompson comes to Mr Hunts Plantation nearly every Ho[u]r about 10 days & to Bybees together Emma Died monday morning, 19th Augt.

23rd Toping Tobacco worming & succoring Tobacco & Beeting Cider Cloudy this morning Beeting Cider in evening Henry started with 2 Hdds Tobacco from aspen Grove wednesday evening,to Lynchg Jery & Smith went with him Expences, Henry & my 2 Horses — Oats for 4 Horses & some fodder 2 Bus. corn in years from here Toll of Waggon 1.25 - pd I sent for 1000 lb Peruvian Guano to Wm Miller 5 Sent waggon on Home by Henry

12 Sale of Mr Hunts Hunts Household property Same work Cool weathering

13. Rained & Mrs Hunts Land went to meeting etc

14 Mr Moses Baptisedgave an ExperienceRaining all day & Baptised Sunday all came here Saturday night Sunday Raining all day

15 I went to Court firing Tobacco Cutting down & Plowing for wheat —

16th. delivered property to day not done

17. gathering apples Halled furniture from Mr Hunts place, shrubing Halling wood

18 Halling wood Halled up our old Blade fodder & 1 stack Oats & 1 Load leaves Malled up some wood & I went to aspen Grove, cloudy nearly all Capt clements Daughter Buried here this evening

19th Raining this morning & very cold got out Peas firing Tobacco & making Baskets & Jobing about got our apples in Granary yesterday or day before Diging [H] in Barn to put up apples

20. Raining again putting up Irish Potatoes & apples to day in cellar & Barn. Sent to Mill this morning checking stables Let Buck Jerry Smith Lila Jordan & Lowry have Soles Buck & Lowry Caps firing Tobacco

21st stayed at home all day nannie went to Mrs Colemans, tolerable day

22. Began to sew wheat Digging Sweet Potatoes etc I went to see Edd Mr Bybee has put up Sweet Potatoe seed & also the Estate of J D Hunt If they Keep I am to have seed from Mr Bybee We ran 3 Plows to day charley Plows well

16th novr Sent my Horse to L Yates Shop Card 1 shoe & he found one nailed them on behind had Mrs Hunts here to day & to night I have stilled to day 1 Doubling 25 GallsBrandy for Est. toll to come out Mr Wyatt finished 1 side of office & began the other, likely for rain—

17th Raining this morning & we are doing but little till after dinner, then we housed all the corn we shucked. about 40 Barrels & 27 before. making over 65 Barrels housed shattered corn to get up yet had Mrs Hunts Horses to hall up about 7 Loads Henry got back this evening Tobacco and sold did not get any time nor my wifes Bonnet; - got bale cotton for Cothran & 1 Bar Iron for Est. of J.D. Hunt -

18 Went to Court. sold Mr Hunts children carriage his gold watch & silver - watch sent waggon Home to aspen Grove Halled wood, Claiborne gone to aspen Grove in Sandys place, Sandy is at Mr Hunts place shoemaking, yet. etc —

19th Stilled to day made for Est 2.25 Gallons toll to come out. Halled up Corn to day, Mrs Hunt & Bob went to her place yesterday Cleaned up round office this morning Mr Wyatt finished it yesterday

20th Halled up fresh ground corn & part of the stalks I went to Doct. J C. Thompson Funeral & Burial at Riceville Mrs Ward Mary Adams & Mrs Coleman all came here about 12 oclock cool day —

21. Finished Shucking Corn & halling stalks

22nd Killed Beef at aspen Grove & shucking Corn
