1859 Oct 2nd, Stayed at home all day went to aspen Grove Saturday Rained a little this day in morning

3rd Pulled Corn in Orchard & put in corn house Toping Succors in fresh ground

Oct 4th they are cutting to day in old field, Jerry is gone to Vaughans with traveller to carry him - I Start to Richmond this morning -

15th I have returned to day from Louisa & Richmond Sold Johns Estate Land in Hanover to aaAdophus Tensley]] by Godden & apperson of Richmond, auctioners — had Capt Boxleys Will recorded etc left Bonds & $30.06 in Cousin J. C. Boxleys hands to Collect & pay Taxes etc - etc etc Our Folks has been Cutting Tobacco Housing Firing Tobacco Cutting down corn fixing for Sewing wheat, Finished Cutting Our tobacco, this evening — after I got home I was taken sick puking & purging something like cholera - Sent for Doct Thompson got better in the night, Bro. J Pannill [hap?] here & stayed with me while sick all night

16th I am better on this morning

17th Hanging Tobacco I am better, Raining a little & I am not enough to go to Court Sent Jacob etc - did not rain much Mr, Moses & Kate came to see me wrote to Sallie Mr Wingfield & Miss Gooden & apperson to day - Raining in the night

18th cleared off very fair pretty day Halling up wood & some to Barns & then Halling up Tobacco & Housing —

19th Went to Plantation to day brot wheat Fan up, 1 Turn Corn 1 sheep & some vinegar & Brandy Halling up Tobacco & finished I went to Sarah McCullock etc etc,

1859 Oct 20th Cutting & Plowing in Lot -

21st went to mill Halled & Cutting firing Tobacco - I went to Jonah Kelleys sale

22nd I went to Johns place, began to sew wheat here, Cutting down Seed Broom Corn & Egyptian wheat. Stoping Gullies in Lot etc

23 Cutting down new ground sewing wheat in Lot fine day for business

24 Same work,

25 Mr Keatts came here to build chimny Sewing wheat this day —

26 Mr Keatts worked 2nd day on chimney pulling Halling up Lot Corn halled 2 Loads. Mr chumney & claiborne with Mr Keatts.

27 Halling up Corn wood & Bricks & at work on chimney - Mr Keatts

28 & 29 Same work on chimney & Housed Corn this evening I went to Sarah McCullock Mr worked nearly 5 day this week -

30st Jerry went to Fannies, Sallie came home yesterday morning Saturday stayed till Monday & went back to Doct Thompsons to go to Danville

31 Halled up a Load of stacks our Load Corn on Stacks Halled 3 Loads wood & 4 Loads Rock Mr Keatts did not come to day all to day

Novr 1st Mr Keatts came after Breakfast Send after Mrs Neale for Lila, child Born about 12 Oclock a Girl. Chumney sent to Mill Halling Rock to day - fine weather

2nd Fox came 8 or Ten Oclock to Dig well & He is Complaining, Keatts Chimney is about to fall down, Arch Broke intoo [in two] in middle, I went to Plantation to day

3rd Mr Keatts at work fixing chimney that was about to fall down Sent to Yates got upwards 30 lbs Iron for chimney etc.

1859 Mr Fox at work on Well 2nd day Henry halling Rock etc Jas Shields Brot me 9 Barrels Corn, fine day -

Novr. 4th Mr Keatts finished chimney & left - Mr Fox at work on well, fine day. Johns Estates Pleasant & charles Halled Rocks to day & Henry all day

= 5th Fox at work on well chumney gone to the store, 2 Boys Cutting Henry Halling wood, sent Robin to shop to be shod before, Fox & Horse been here since 9 Oclock ThursdayWednesdayleft Saturday evening fine weather Mrs Hunt came back here this morning but going to Johns again. Fox left ½ after 2 Oclock this evening & horse went to Plantation in evening. No Fox, Hewed ps for Ice House in morning Killed little Beef weighted 142 lbs Halled up ½ stack Oats, cutting in new ground, Isaac overby here to day quite cool —

8 no Fox yet I went to Pannills & Tan yard got no Leather Sent for waggon fixings for Lynchg in morning chumbly shingling Henry, House claiborne & Jerry Smith Cutting malling Rails & wood & Piling –

9th Mr Fox has not come. Henry went after waggon & started to Lynchg this morning malling Mr Chumbly & little Henry at work Negro House

10th Nails gave out this evening I got back in Two days from Lynchg

Started Wednesday & got back Thursday night about ½ past Ten oclock the waggon will 1959got back to day = Friday - sometime nearnight Nov 11Bot in Lynchg 25 Bus. Bran 40 Brown stuff for Hogs got troughs to day & ps for Kitchen & malling & Cutting cleaning up in new ground Jerry started to school to Mr J. E Tompkins to Board with Mr McDaniel @ $8 pr month & at the rates of 25$ Tuition pr 10 months,

Novr 12 Sent waggon home 4 Bus. Brown Stuff for Hogs 5 lb Nails & [Hames] etc etc Halled wood cutting & malling overseer & Little Henry finished covering negro House I went to malling -

13 went to meeting to day SSC

14 Began to Shoe make Fed & Sandy here overseer Cut them out. Pulling Halling up Corn Feeding Hogs here on Brown Stuff bot in Lynchg -

16 went to Fannies me & Nannie shucking Corn & Housing fine moderate weather

17 Went to Plantation give out 6 lbs Cotton in evening altered our shoats - shucking & Housing Corn shoemaking ever since last Monday morning

18th Finished housing Corn put away Greens halled up one stack fodder, Fanning wheat gave out Henry, little Henry & claiborne their shoes, F & Sandy shoemaking began to Rain about 12 Oclock & in the night rained very hard, wrote a letter to Sallie & Jere

19th Set up Hhd to day filled 2 Hhds of wheat Fanned out Covered Greens etc.

1959 Given out negroes here & at Plantation nov 19 their winter shoes except Pal, cleared of[f] very pretty day =

Novr 21 I went to Court, Rained all the evening Come back in Rain me & Mr J.P. Lewis Halled some Rails to fence in fodder stack Fed & Sandy shoemaking began to stripTobacco

22nd Set up Hhd made Cow Pen etc etc

23rd Finished shoemaking except my shoes Fed making them sent Sandy home & sent after Cart Fanning out wheat & Finished, I went with Mrs Hunt down to See about her Corn nearly all nubbins Finished up Our wheat as follows - Used & Sewed 19 Bushels Fanned & put in 3 Hhd 75½ Do. Bot of Kelley 20 Bus chumney got - - In Hhd in my Granary 27½ - 27½ In 4 Hhd in my Granary122 Bus Began to Halled up Logs for stable to day

24th Halling Logs for stable malling & cleaning up in new ground ^little Henry gone to Yates to get 2 Bus. Corn in meal for mutton Sold Wright Yates Miller -

25 Halling Logs Rocks ps s. for well Cutting & cleaning up in new ground I went to Grastys Sale, clerk it for him gave me $3. went back this day got some things I bot, sent waggon halled wood & the evening Henry carried 1 Log to whitehead saw mill for sheeting 2½ wheat for overseer & 2½ for me etc —

26 Sent Cart & Fan Home to aspen Grove Henry Halling wood, Balance Cutting & malling etc
