234 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jul 15 1887 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled An Ordinance providing for the grading of Mill Street from a point midway between South Fourth and South Fifth Streets to Williamson Street and build sidewalks on both sides thereof" which is passed by the following vote, viz: In favor of the same Furth, Frink, Green, T.D. Hinckley Russell and Charles F. Reitze. Against none. An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance provided for the grading of Seventh Street from Madison Street to Mill Street and for the building of sidewalks thereon" which is passed by the following vote. viz: In favor of the same Furth, Frink, Green, Hinckley Russell & Reitze. Against none An Ordinance is submitted by the Clerk entitled 'A special Ordinance Appropriating Money [crossed out] to pay Audited Bills" which is passed by the following vote: ayes Furth, Frink, Green Hinckley, Russell & Reitze. Noes none. Ordered that the Council do now adjourn un-til Thursday July 21st 1887 at 7.30 P.M. Attest W R Forrest Clerk Approved W.H. 339 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Nov 18 1887 Ordered that the Clerk be instructed to notify the Seattle Electric Light Co that they arenot lighting thestreets in accorance with the provisionsof their contract. Ordered that an Electric Light be placed at the door of Deluge Hose Co's house. Cor Pike & 3rd Streets Ordinances The City Attorney submits an Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance authorizing and empowering the Mayor and Clerk of the City of Seattle to execute a bond for appeal in the case of F B Kendrick vs City of Seattle" Which is passed by the following vote: Ayes Green, Lake, Moran, Niesz, Russell & Reitze. Noes None. Mill Street grade Ordered that the time of the Contractor for grading Mill Street be extended until July 1st next, provided that bondsmen of said contractor file their written consent to such extension with the City Clerk on or before November 21st 1887. Ordinances An Ordinance is submitted by the City Atty entitled "an Ordinance extending the time within which Mill Street from a point midway between South Fourth Street and South Fifth Street to Williamson Street shall be graded" Which is passed by the following votes viz: In favor of same Green, Lake, Moran, Niesz, Russell & Reitze. Against the same, None. Ordered that Front Street be planked from Cherry Street to James Street

445 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Apr 20 1888 Committee Reports Received From Street Committee on Harbor Master's report stating that the Committee had examined Washington Street Slip and ordered the necessary repairs made. Adopted. From same Committee granting petition of F S DeWolfe & others for widening Second Street and grading and building sidewalks on both sides of said street. from Battery Street to Depot Street and directing the City Surveyor to make plans and specifications therefor and submit them at the next regular meeting. On motion the report is ordered filed and action thereon postponed until the next regular meeting. From same Committee granting the petition of W H Shoudy & others for opening Thomas Street from Birch Street to the Bay. Adopted From same Committee on petition of Winsor & Co for planking on Front Street in front of the Rose Block that when Front Street is replanked the planking will be extended in front of said block. Adopted. From same Committee on petition of John Christ in regard to the Mill Street grade, recommending that piles be driven on block between South Fourth Street and South Fifth Street and planked on inside of said piles so as to keep earth from falling on Lot 8 Block 30 Maynard's Plat and the same will have to be done on the opposite side of the street to protect Mr Keezers property: and 1&1/4 inch iron rods put across street to secure the same. Adopted. From Committee on Fire and Water graanting petition of Engine Co No 4 for a steward for the engine house of said Co. provided the expense of such steward shall not exceed $15. pr month. Adopted. From same Committee rejecting petition of J R Kinnear and others for fire limits in Front St between Bell St and Lake Avenue as the Com does not think it advisible to establish same now. Adopted

479 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE May 18 1888 Councilman Furth moves that South Fifth Street be graded between Washington Street and Jackson Street Carried by unanimous vote. On motion of Councilman Lake, A A Bell is appointed by the Council to obtain dedication of property on Second Street widening said Street to ninety (90) feet. Board if Registration The Council now proceeds to elect a Board of Registration for the ensuing year as follows to wit-: For the First Ward G W Young For the Second Ward Hillory Butler For the Third Ward David Kellogg For the Fourth Ward Wm H Hughes The Above named persons having received the unanimous vote of the Council are duly declared elected. Ordered that the Mayor be and he is hereby appointed a committee of one to invite the Govenor of British Columbia the officers of the Navy at Esquimalt and Municipal officers of neighboring cities to participate in the celebration of the Fourth of July in this day. Ordered that Front Street be planked from Columbia Street to Union Street. Ordered that the Street Committee employ teams and complete the work of filling in Second and Washington Streets Ordered that the Clerk draw a warrant on the General fund in the sum of $2500.00 in favor of John H McGraw for the purpose of decorating the streets for the coming Fourth of July Celebration.
