Julia Brumfield Diaries

A clear cool day so cold that I am afraid it will frost tonight. We all staid at home all day. Ben and Josie has bin sick all day. They come to the dining room tonight. I do hope that they will soon be better and that none of the rest will get sick. Jim came home ok. He eat dinner at Marvins. I am glad that he did. Wish I could of bin there two. He came with Faber and Paul and Alma part of the way home. I am glad that he did get to come that way. Oh when I get to thinking about all of the children. I want to see them so bad but cant go and they wont come.

A good day. Cloudy tonight and a little rain. Jim & Ben plowed corn and cut off tobacco hills getting aready to plant tobacco. Mr. Owen carried Alice Thomson & children Mrs Thomson & I and Jane Reynolds to white falls. We did not catch many fish but had a good time. Mrs Car was with Josie. Carrie Reese and the little girls and Kate Harvey come a little while. Virginia H and Doris B come a a while. The children went to the Sulpher Springs. They had a good time Their teachers was with them. They had ice cream.

A cloudy morning and some rain. No rain this evening. Ben and Jim went to Renan this morning. This evening they cut and mauled. Ben got hurt. The wedge hit him in the face and cut his lip and a gash in his face. He went to the Dr. and had it fixed up. I hope it will not get bad. Nellie and I got dinner. I churned and printed the butter. Nellie sewed some. I cut pieces for Kate to put together. I went to Norman Bookers a while this evening. Mrs Booker gave me some sweet potatoes as nice as I ever saw. I am so glad of them.

A cloudy day most of the day. Jim and John Ward mauled. Ben shucked some corn. Nellie got dinner. This evening I went to George Blaine. They were all gone from home except Denia. Some of them had gone to Danville and some to Gretna. I would of been glad to see the young folks. Denia had washing done today. Norman Booker and his wife went to Gretna this morning. Heard today that Jamie Gravely was married last Sunday. I wish her well. The children went to school.

A rainy day. Jim went from here this morning. He was going to see his people at Lynchburg. I have felt all day like something serious was the matter. I can't tell why. Jim went with the Edmons boys to Gretna. Ben's car is so out of fix that it won't go like he would like. Floid Reynols was here a few minute to day. He said that Julia Fergeson's baby was very sick. Reubin and his mother was going to Danville this evening to see the baby. I hope it is better by now. I got a nice box of candy from Clifton and Jane today. I have got more nice presents and cards this Xmas than I ever did be fore at Xmas. Ben is at work on a picture frame to night.
