Cloudy most of the day Ben went to John Hutchersons a while this morning

I went to Marvins and eat dinner. Carrie had a good dinner Josie and the children staid at home. Lee_s people is sick. Some of them very sick. I am so uneasy a bout them I want to hear from all of the children so bad hope I may hear soon.

We are having a very colde spell of weather

A good day. Some cooler. Jim & Ben covered the shed to the stable. Got it a bout done. Marvin carried a load of feed to his new home. Josie got dinner. I ironed some this evening. Denia Blair come over a while. She has a bad colde. I was glad that she come. Lee Brumfield killed a beef. We got a peice of it and Carrie got some. Reese went to Renan for it. I am glad to get it. The children went to school today. Sellie Blair gave Henry a mess of salit. He forgot and left it at the school house.

Thursday December 8, 1921

A cloudy day. No rain until a bout night. Marvin moved his family to Gretna today and Norman Booker moved to the place that he moved from. Ben went with a load. Lee Brumfield & Johnson Reynolds and Willie Mayhew all carried a load. The family went on the car. Nellie Brumfield went with them on her way home. William Gilbert and Reese Smith carried the cows. Alcie Callender washed here today and helped me clean the hog faces. I cleaned the feet myself. Virginia Harvey come today. Josie and Virginia made some candy. Josie fried sausag and caned some. She got dinner & supper. Jim helped Norman Booker put up his range this evening. I hope they all will be pleased with the change they made.

Friday December 9, 1921

A beautiful day. Jim Brumfield went with Normon Booker to Mr Dave Bookers to get his cows. They got back home a bout twelve oclock. Ben did not get home until dark. Him and Lee Brumfield helped Marvin to fix up his things. Jim mended up the toy house that Marvins children did have. Kate Harvey come a little while. Oh how she will mis Marvins folks. I have felt all day like something bad had happened. Josie went up to Mr Booker a few minutes this morning. Mrs Booker was very busy. I boiled meat and made scrapple today. The children went to school. Reece and Paul come with Ben home. They will carrie a load of plunder home tomorrow if nothing happens to hinder.

Friday December 16, 1921

A partly day. Jim & Ben hauled up some corn stalks this morning. This evening they cut wood for Norman Booker. Tonight Ben & Josie went to Strait Stone. Did not stay long. Mabel staid up until they come home. Marvin Smith come today. He eat dinner with us. Josie ironed most allday. I got dinner except make the biskit. Josie done that. I stewed pumpkin the most of the day. Lizzie Bennett and Lee Brumfield gave me a pumpkin. We did not make one this year. Eleck Gilbert hauled and put wood under shelter to day. I am glad of it. The children went to school.

A good day. Ben & Jim cut until twelve then Jim went to Lee Brumfields to a wood chopping. Ben went to Worshams saw mill for lumber. Josie done a big washing. I staid with the children. Denia & Mollie & Cordie come to see us this evening. I am so glad that they come. We heard today that Anderson Owen is very sick. I have bin up all day. I do hope that I may get well a gain. I dont want to be any trouble to any one.

A cloudy and snowed untwelve. Colde and clear to night. Lee Brumfield & Hugh come eat dinner with us. Henry & Hugh went out. The dogs caught a possome. Hugh started home with it. Josie done the work a gain today. I set by the fire. Do hope I may be able to work soon.

A bright cool day. We all staid at home until after twelve. Ben & Josie & the children went to Lee Brumfields. I went to Marvins. George Blair and Denia was there. Marvin & Aubra Brumfield & Hugh and Fred Hutcherson & Reese Smith all went on the mountains. Josie has sick head ache tonight. Franklin is in my bed and I am going to let him stay there.

A good day. Ben went to Mag Brumfields to a cutting match. Jim cleared up the garden nearest [?] the potatoes. Henry went to Mags this evening & to Lees. I went to Johnson Reynolds this evening. Found them all well. Josie baked some pies this evening. Charles Harvey come & brought a sack of ship stuff home. Jim & Ben has gone to Strait Stone tonight.

Cloudy most of the day. Rain tonight. We all staid a bout home. Lee Brumfield eat dinner with us. He was driving a colt. He come & went all right. Heard that Paul & Earl Bennett was at Blairs. I would of liked to see them. Heard today that Mr. Jess Adkerson [?] was dead. Talked with Fanny Emerson this morning. She was at Mrs Gravelys. Said she would come to see us be fore she went home.

A clear colde day. Ben & Jim & Owen worked on a ditch this morning. Ben went to Strait Stone this evening. The surveyor was at Thomsons. Johnson Reynolds & Marvin Smith went with Ben. Josie ironed. I went to Marvins this evening. Henry & Edna went to school. Lee Brumfield passed here to day. Stoped a few minutes. Marvin is here to night. They are all at the dining room. Josie is at work on Mabels flannel

Saturday, May 22, 1920

A beautiful day. The men fixed tobacco land all day. Josie baked a cake this morning. We cooked rice and fried meat, made coffee, & baked bread. This evening Josie bathed all the children, cleaned up the dining room, moved the carpet off the floor. I went to Kate Harveys and Mollie Reynolds and Carries. I saw Lee Brumfield and several others. I have gone to sleep and bot[?]ed my book.

A cloudy all day and a little rain. Enough to do lots of good. Jim & Ben Josie and the children come home to day at twelve. They had a good time but huriedly they had the babys pictures made. I went to Johnson Reynolds this evening. Mollie & Christenia was going to Lee Brumfields. Kate Harvey come after potato slips. Robert brought me home. Ben had started after me.

A good day. Jim and Ben thined corn until twelve oclock. Jim went to Chatham this evening. Ben carried him to Gretna. I went with them. Lees folks was workin in their tobacco. Grace gave me some cabbage. I am glad of them. Josie washed. We come by Kates from Gretna. Mrs Owen was there and Christenia Reynolds. Charles and a work man was at work on the house.

A good day. Very warm. I have bin here at Tim Bennetts all day. Tim and Gorden went to Chatham. Tim said that Lee Brumfield was there. Mrs Jefferson and Miss Estell Riddle to Tims. Well I don't know to write. Wish I could hear from home.

A good day. Fanny & Effie Power & Brumfield was here to day. Ben carried them to Lee Brumfields this evening. Ben finished cutting oats this morning. This evening he went to Cedar Forest. He carried Josie and all the children and I. I went with them to the creek. While they bathed I fished. Caught 7 fish. We got home on time to do our work. Carrie has bin sick to day. It is raining.

A good day. The men finished filling a bank of tobacco. Josie fired tobacco this morning and picked a basket of beans. I got the dinner. This evening Josie & Carrie and the little children went to Lee Brumfield. Ben carried them and Reese brought them home. Jack Harvey got home yesterday from Richmond. Charles Harvey and Henry Brumfield went a round to gather today. The men folks wont have to sit up tonight. 8 oclock

A good day. Ben & Josie staid at home until twelve. Ben went to meet Jim. Josie stopped at Lees. The children went to Gretna. Carrie and the children and I went to Tim Benson [?] Ola & Faber Jefferson was there. Gorden & Frances come there. Tim and all of them was very nice to us. Marvin went to meeting at Strait Stone. 8 oclock

Oct first day

A good day. Ben & Jim cut corn all day. Josie and I got dinner. While we were eating dinner Charley Harvey & Lee Brumfield come. Josie and I registered and paid taxes. Josie made Edna a dress. I picked some peas and went to Marvins. To day is Mabels birthday.

17th Sunday. A good day. I got breakfast and milked the cows. Killed tow chickens then went with Lizzie to George Blairs. Ben carried us part of the way. There was no one at home but George. Denia had a good dinner. Blair [?] has the mumps. Ben and family went to Jim Powers. Found them well. I think Josie is feeling some better today Oh I hope she may soon be well. Marvin and family was at Lees this evening. I am glad that they went.

A bright colde day. Ben and Jim stripped tobacco. They eat dinner at Marvins. Franklin staid with Aunt Carrie. Reese and Henry and I went to Worshams Pond. I wish I had staid at home and worked. Ben heard from Josie. She wants to come home Monday. Mrs Car and the little children are at Jim Powers. I will be glad when they come home. Earl Booker come with us on the car near Lees home. She was going to John Emersons to a party tonight.

A good day. All of the family staid at home until dinner except Henry. He went to Lee Brumfields and from there to Clide Reynols. He went on his wheel to Lees. Put in a barn and some one took it. I went to George Blairs. Did not see any of but Denia and Frank. Edna had made a fire and was going to the spring when I got home. All the Blair girls was gone to Strait Stone and Rens. Cordie was at Rens.

A cloudy day. Rain tonight. Max Car went from here this morning. Jim went to Lee Brumfields to a cutting match. Kate Harvey come to see us this morning. She eat dinner with us. Ben & Josie come home today from Charlottsvill. We was glad to have them back. Josie is feeling bad I know. Henry & Edna went to school. Hattie Gilbert washed here today. Most of the clothes was dry enough to take in. Oh how I wish I could See Carries folks. It rains rains rains.

A good day. Ben fixed the gate to the flower garden. We were glad to have it made so we could go in the garden. Jim moved his pig to the pasture today. Mrs Car went home this evening. Ben & Josie and all the children went. They did not go in at Mr Powers. Most all of the Powers people are sick. I heard a gun shot tonight. We heard that a mad dog was killed. S[h]ot near Lee Brumfields.

There has bin more passing a bout today than any Sun[day] since Xmas. Looks like rain now.

Chris Tenigs Reynols was here today.

A bad day. Rained some & cool. Jim and Ben worked a round some when it was not raining. Josie staid at home and got dinner. She has a quilt in the frames. I did very common. I went to Lee Brumfields and spent the day. I had a pleasand day. Grace had a good dinner. John & Edwin Brumfield was there at work on the porch. Os(crossed out) Oscar Brumfield come for me and brought me home. I was glad to go but hated to leave. So much for Josie to do. Effie come with us home but did not get out of the car. She got some flowers.

Rainy morning. quit about twelve Ben + Jim planted some tobacco the children choped ptants and Henry planted some carie Sent a piece of goods to make Mabel a chess. Kate + Joace come This evening on Lees buggy I was glad that they come Fannie made Edna a dress today Farmie milk the red cow this morning + tonight that is a gmea help to one she coasties most of the dishes Jose has begin wh doing today oft that she could get well again

A good day we all staid at home except Henry. He went to Aunt Mags & Uncle Lees. I got the most of the dinner. We had snaps the first this season. We had fried chicken. I did hope that Carrie would come but she did not come. I hope none of them are sick. Jim Thomson & family come. I was glad to see them. A good day. We all staid at home until twelve. Hugh & [?]& Ernest Brumfield come to see Henry there. Dave Booker come he was on a car. They all got on it and went to Lees. I got dinner. I cooked snaps and chicken baked sweet potatoes made pies. The first potatoes of this season. No one come to see us today. [I] would of bin glad for some one to come. This is a plentiful year of vegetables and fruit I have had some thing to cook that is nice most evry day. I want to be thankful.

A good day. Ben & Jim stripped tobacco all day. Nellie helped tie. Bettie ironed some today. I got most of the dinner. Bettie d[r]essed a chicken for me. I churned. The children went to school. Henry come by Lees and got some beef. He got to ride most of the way. Mollie Reynols come to see Josie today. Last night one of Mr Edmons cows got choked with a sweet potatoe. Lee & Ben went down there. They cut in to her swallow and got out the potatoe. The cow is getting on Ok they hope. Mabel is trying her self tonight.

A good day. We were all at home at dinner. Henry went to Sunday School. This evening Ben & Jim and Henry went to Lees. I sent some butter. Hellen will sell it at Altavista. I got dinner. Roasted two chickens. Late this evening Carrie & Kate and Reese & [Juilia?] was with them come. Carrie eat dinner with Kate. I wish I could of bin with them. Dr Wigginton & Pearl was at Kates. Hattie gil[Gilbert?] col)[coloured girl]come & helped to straiten up things this morning. Edna & Franklin & Mabel has gone to bed.
