A cloudy morning rain this evening. Ben and Paul and Owen plowed half the day.

Josie got dinner. I churned and worked some in the garden.

Ellen and Melvin Bailiss come and got milk and butter. I wrote a letter to Mary Brumfield this evening.

Heard this morning that Sam Carter was to be buried to day.

A cloudy day. This morning the fences washed down and away. I lost a 4 galons of milk besides lots of other damage. Josie got dinner. Nellie sowed some on Josies dress. Evylin straitened up the parlor. I churned. It was a hard matter to get a fire a bout eleven oclock.

Mr Glass and Mr Vonwagner come. They eat dinner here. Nell & Evylin went with them to Chatham.

The boys killed the bees in two hives this evening.

Jim & Ben and Mr Owen went to Renan this evening. There has bin three or four cars passed here today. The roads are very bad.

Josie & the children and I went to Marvins this evening.

Paul Bennett got the car in the creek and never got home until twelve to day.

A good day. The men folks cut tobacco.

Marvin brought our flour from the mill.

Mollie Reynols come a few minutes this morning. Johnson went to see Mr Layne this morning.

We got dinner & churned. We all staid at home all day. Josie cut out some garments to mak soon.

I gathered & strung some snaps for tomorrows dinner. Mrs Owen come this evening for milk. She picked up a bucket of apples for us.

A little rain this morning. Clear this evening. Ben & Jim and Henry went to work in the tobacco this morning. Word came that Miss Ursal[?] Lewis was lost from the milkin place. The boys from here and all over the neighborhood went to look for her. They found her unharmed. She just went a way because she was mad. Josie raked and worked on the yard. I was afraid she would be sick. Denia & Sallie Blair come here this evening. I was at Johnson Reynols. They had a crowd this evening. Mrs Kellie & Grace Brumfield & Mrs Dr Owen and six children, Kate Harvey and I. They had plenty of water mellons. Two men was going to speak at Renan school house tonight.

Sunday August 28, 1921

A cloudy day and raining tonight and we need it so bad. Jim & Ben has staid at the barns most of the day.

Nellie went to see Carrie a while this morning. Nellie and Evylin eat dinner and dressed[?] and started home. Marvin carried them to Gretna. Edna and I though that Ben was going to Gretna and that we would go with him. He did not go and we went to George Blairs. We stopped in at Mr Hutchersons a few minutes. Mr Edmons was there. Josie has put up the milk to night.

Monday December 19, 1921

A good day. Jim and Ben shucked some corn and hauled stalks and put in the stable. Josie washed dishes and milked the cows. I went to Chatham with Johson & Mollie Reynols. Clack Hubbard and Christenia Reynols went with them also. I dont think any body bought much. They ask such prices for what they had to sell. Henry & Edna went to school. Franklin is not well. Virginia Harvey come here and Josie and Virginia made candy for to treat the school children on Wednesday. I had a good day. I met with several of my kind folks and acquaintances. I was so glad to go and every thing [?] of good. Alice Thomson was at Chatham.

A cloudy day. The boys could not do much work. Kate come down here. She wanted to see Jim & Ben on business.

Josie got dinner. She baked some nice corn bread.

I sowed on my quilt. I got breakfast and milked and fed the chickens and churned.

Tonight Jim & Ben has gone to Renan. The children went to school. 9 oclock

A bad day. Snowed all day. Marvin & boys come down & got their [?] cut. Josie milked for me this morning the first time any one has milked for me this winter. I have felt bad all day. Franklin is better I hope. I wrote two letters to day one to Effie & one to John. I do hope I may feel better by morning.

7 oclock The baby will be 5 months old tomorrow and weighs 12 pound.

A clear good day. The men cut & mauled all day. Josie done most all the work. Milked & brought water. She fixed to wash in the morning. Henry & Edna went to school. I think Franklin is improveing. Mabel has bin cross. I dont think she is well. I dont feel well a bit. Do hope I will be well soon. I try to ask the lord to take care of us. That is all the help that will do any good. Franklin come in tonight to stay with me a while. Josie is ironing tonight.

Cloudy this morning. Clear this evening. Jim split wood & Ben went to the saw mill for lumber. Henry & Edna went to school. Josie got dinner. She went to Carries a few minutes this morning. Carrie was washing. I am sorry that they have so much hand washing to do but it cant be helped. I milked a gain this morning. I am so glad that I am able to help some a gain.

A bright colde day. The men folks did not do much out of doors. Josie done what was done in the house. I cut quilt peices and [?]rsed the baby a little. Ben helped Josie milk this morning for the first time this winter. I had a letter from John this evening. I am so glad when I can hear and they are well.

Cloudy this morning and a hard rain at twelve. Jim & Ben did not do much on account of weather. I helped with the work and milked. Josie made Franklin two pair of over alls. I went to Marvins. Carried Carries quilts home. Marvin was shuckin corn. Henry & Edna went to school. Ben commenced on a garden house for Mr Owen.

A very bad day. The wind is bowing tonight and the weather is colde. Jim helped Marvin shuck some corn. This evening Jim & Ben went to Renan. There was no one at the store. Josie got dinner and milked. I churned. I have not bin out much to day. All of us are as well as usual.

Clear windy & colde. Jim and Ben rumbled a round this morning. This evening they went to Marvins. Josie & I staid at home all day. Josie got dinner. She baked one of the nicest cakes yesterday that I ever saw. I helped some today. Josie milked. I churned & wash dishes. Helpe to attend the baby.

A good day. The men folks sawed wood for Owen & commenced for Marvin. Josie got dinner. I got breakfast & milked the cows and churned then went to George Blairs. I had a good day. Isla was not at home. I missed her. They were all busy. Mrs Hutcherson went to see Mrs Allen this evening. I got a letter from Effie Brumfield this evening.

A good day. Jim plowed in the new ground. Mr Owen plowed with two horses. Josie got dinner. I got breakfast & milked and churned. I made two pots of soup. I cut some salit for tomorrow. Carie come & cut some for her self. I cut Kate a mess & Reese carried it to her. Henry & Edna went to school. Ben borrowed John Hutchersons boots & ditched some this evening. Tonight Ben & Jim & Marvin has all gone to Strait Stone.

A bright cool day. Jim got up roots [?] in the new ground. Ben went to the island for guano late this evening. Ben & Owen plowed. Henry went to George Blairs for dahalia roots that Cordie gave me. Floid Reynolds come for milk. Josie got dinner. She put out some clothes that she washed Monday. I went to Marvins as usual. Come home and staid with the children while Josie went to the plant bed for salit. 9 oclock

A good morning. A very windy evening. Jim & Owen plowed all day. Ben cleaned up the land. Josie got dinner. This evening she cut out a dress and made it finished ready to wear. I washed some and planted some flowers that Cordie gave me. Mollie Reynolds come this morning and got a bucket of milk and some lillie of the valey for Reubin. I went to Carries a few minutes. 9:30 oclock

A bright cool day. Jim & Owen worked on the land to get it ready to plant. Josie ironed this morning. I got a snack for dinner. I milked and churned and fed the chickens & dressed a hen for dinner [?] tomorrow at dinner. I got Ben to take me & the children to White Falls. We caught a few fish. Kate Harvey come while I was gone. I was sorry not to see her. Charles Harvey come by this evening.

A clear cool day. Ben & Owen planted corn. Jim plowed in the new ground. Josie got dinner. She went to Marvins a few minutes this evening. I got breakfast this morning and milked the cows and fed the chickens. Worked a little in the garden then went to Kate Harveys and eat dinner then Kate & I went to Mags and staid a while then come home and fed the chickens then went to the plant bed for salit [?] milked.

Rain this morning and a little this evening. Clear tonight. Ben carried Jim to Chatham. Carried caned fruit and lard. Ben get home before dark. Josie ironed some and got dinner. I milked and churned and went to the plant bed for salit. I went to Carries a few minutes this evening. Edna & Franklin went to Mr. Edmonds to play with Franklin Edmond.

A rainy morning. We were all so glad. Quit raining and they planted tobacco. Irvin Hardey helped them for plants. I got breakfast & milked and fed the chickens then churned and fixed up the butter. Josie & I got dinner. I cooked some onions. The first we have cooked this year. I drawed plants all the evening. 9 oclock

A good day. Some clouds but no rain here. Jim & Ben worked on tobacco until dinner then they & Josie and three of the children went to Mr Bill Tuckers burial and then to Chatham. I do hope they got there ok. I got supper. Reese & Henry and I eat. I milked. The boys fed the horses & hogs. Now we are ready to go to bed. Reese and Henry will sleep in my room. 8 30

A good day. Jim & Ben and Henry worked tobacco and planted potato slips. Ben has gone to Strait Stone tonight to the Lodge. Josie ironed all the morning. Bathed and dressed the children. I got breakfast and milked the cows fed the chickens then I went to Mr Mayhews and Mr Edmons s for potatoe slips. Got a few at both places. Beatrice and Dewie come down here this evening. They said that the baby was sick.

A good day. Ben and Jim finished plowing their corn for this year. They plowed tobacco the [?] of the day. Josie washed a little and ironed some and baked a cake and bathed the children. I got breakfast and milked the cows. Brough the milk from the spring and churned, gathered some snaps, got some potatoes and [?] them and cooked them, dress 4 chickens. Went to Marvins and helped Carrie dress 4 chickens. They are fixin for a dinner at Strait Stone tomorrow. 9 oclock [Written upside down above the date: We hope that Franklin is getting on ok. Henry is complaining to night.]

A good day. Jim & Ben topped tobacco all day. Josie ironed some this morning and got dinner. I milked & churned & cut the cucumbers for pickle. This evening we all went to Marvins. He had bin to Altavista and brought ice. We had all the cream that we could eat. We certainly did enjoy it. To night Marvin and Carrie has gone to preaching. To night William [?] is keeping the children. 9:30 oclock

A good day. Ben worked on his car the most of the day. Jim fired tobacco all day. Josie got dinner. I got the breakfast and milked the cows and churned. I cut cucumber and put them in brine. I gathered some butter beans and corn for dinner. This evening I went to Union Grove to preaching. Reese carried his mother and I. When I come home I milked the cows and eat supper and went to Marvins. He carried me and Carrie to Mr Allens to preaching.

A cloudy all day. Rain tonight. The men cut tobacco all day. Ben & Owen will stay at the barn. Josie caned some tomatoes this morning and made preserves and catchsup. She got most of the dinner. I milked and churned and kept busy most of the day. Miss Willie Wooding come a little while. Henry & Ben went hunting last night. Did not catch anything.

A good day. Ben had three loads of wood [?] to finish cureing. Some tobacco. Jim staid at the barn all day. Josie and I got dinner this evening. Ben & family and I went to Jim Powers. Had a pleasant evening. Come home. I milked. Josie got supper.

Marvin went to Strait Stone. Thought there would be preaching. There was none. 8 oclock

A good day. Ben & Jim cut corn in the morning. This evening Jim mowed peas. Ben went with Josie and I to Long Island. Josie bought two doz quart fruit jars this morning. Josie went to Carries for some patterns this evening. I stoped there. Carrie was canning apples. I helped peel some apples. Come home and cut grass for the cows and milked. Edna is at Mr Woodings to night.
