A good day. Jim stripped tobacco. Henry disked land for wheat. Ben put shoes on his horse then he carried Edna & I to the river. We fished. Edna caught three fish. Ben carried us and he come home & then come after us brought us home and then went to Gretna and back by late supper and now he is at the barn tieing tobacco. Jim & Nellie are tieing two [sic]. Nellie & Bettie got dinner & supper. I milked the cows. Josie is very bad off. They carried me fishing because they know I am olde that I never will go many more times.
A good day. Ben sowed some grass seed. Jim & Nellie stripped tobacco. Nellie helped me this morning. I milked two cows and one was not up. I hunted for her but did not find her. Jim found her in Mr Bookers field. Josie has suffered a lot today. Mr Irvin Lewis sent Josie a nice box of grapes by mail today. Mr Dews come tonight and paid Mrs Car some mony. Fannie Power and I ironed some this evening. I am so glad that it is done. I s[t]arched some clothes this evening.
A good day. Ben & Jim shucked corn this morning. This evening Jim went to the mill. He carried wheat did not get it ground. He brought 1000 weight of brand. Mabel and I went with him. Nellie milked the cows. Fannie got supper. Ben watered the calf after dark. Fannie Power went to Renan. We had cabbage for dinner and enjoyed them. Nellie is busy making a dress for a little girl in Charlottesville. Some one sent Josie a box of flowers by mail today. Mollie Reynols come today. I would of bin glad to see her.
A good day. The boys hauled up stalks and corn. Very glad they have got as much as they have. Nellie sewed some. She washed the dishes and fixed the milk ready to churn. Fannie ironed. I got dinner. We had cabbage. They were a rarity. Josie has suffered a lot today. Mrs Lewis sent her some nice fruit this evening. The people send her some thing nearly every day. Fannie has started to [?] Gladis to a school entertainment. George Blair come for her. I want to see all of my children so bad but cant.
A very windy. Ben & Jim cut wood until dinner. Then they killed 15 turkey. Nellie & I helped tp pick them. Denia Blair come to see Josie this evening. Fletcher Car & his mother & wife went to Mr Dews & Mr Powers this evening. Mrs Lelia Car & Nellie got supper & washed dishes to night. I did not milk tonight. It was was late when we come from the spring. We had a big frost. The children went to school. Lelia Car ironed some this morning.
A rainy day. Ben & Jim stripped tobacco. The children went to school. Henry went to a ball game at [...ting?]. Went with Lawson Emerson. Nellie ironed some this morning. I ironed this evening. Finished what was to do. Nellie & I got dinner. I milked tonight & Nellie & Edna got supper. Nel let Edna make the bread for supper. It was good. Fannie has bin with Josie all day. Mrs Car has not come yet. Guess it will be a day or two yet before she comes. We will be glad when she comes.
A cloudy cold day. Jim went to Gretna with tobacco. Started before day. Did not sell. He came home & brought the team. Ben got Mr Bookers team and went to the mill. I am so glad that he did go as we was out of flour & cornmeal. Josie has bin pent all day. Fanny & Mrs Car has worked on Mrs Cars dress some today. Nellie & I got dinner. Hattie Gilbert(col) washed here today. Henry turned over a churn of milk this morning be for he started to school.
A beautiful day. The boys hunted some. We had no company until about night then Bruce Reynolds and his wife & Julia & Mildred Fergerson come a little while. I got dinner and churned then milked the cows. Did not get any supper. George Barber and Earnest Pool had trouble. Barber drove into Pools buggy. Did not hurt any one much. The horse ran away. I hope they may settle with out a fuss. Henry has gone to Reynols tonight.
A good morning again. This evening we were all at home except Henry. He was at Reynols. This evening Ben and Jim went to Altavista. Jim wanted to get his teeth pulled. The dentist was not in town. They got home about dark. Jim has gone to Mr. Bookers to hear about Pools and Barbers troubles. I got dinner and churned and milked morning & evening. Mrs Booker came to see Josie this evening. Went home through the rain. I fed the horses and hogs for the first time this year and I guess it will be the last.
A rainy bad day most of the day. The wind is blowing tonight. Were all at home at dinner except Jim. I got dinner & churned. Milked morning and evening. Henry went to Mount Amy this morning. Mrs. Booker and Ethel Wooding and Elsie East come to see Josie a few minutes today. Josie has bin feeling bad today. I have seen people moveing today. They had six one horse wagons. The most I had seen in a long time. Dont know who they were that was moveing. They had a bad time for it.
365 Sunday, Dec. 31, 1922 A colde cloudy day - no weather Ben & Jim went to Mr Bookers before breakfast Jim fed his stock and Ben milked his cows. Mr Booker & family was at Mrs Jacksons. The cubian[?] went away this morning. Ernest & Lottie Craddock and Johnson and Posie & Bruce & his wife and Alice Thomson come to see Josie this morning. This evening Lee & Grace Brumfield & Carles and Virginia Harvey come to see her. Well time is what I want. But I am glad that Xmas is over the excuse for idleness & extravagance and I hope to see another Xmas but may not/amen
Jim and Ben had bad colds I hope they wont get sick. We heard today that Sam Owen family has flue. There is a lot of sickness a bout. I have bin busy most all day. Done all the cooking that has been done. Milked & churned dried clothes by the fire There have not been any one to see Josie. Today I got a letter from Elsie Brumfield this evening I want to hear from Carrie's folks so bad.

The children went to school Josie has bin easy most of the time Today Mabel put on shoes and stockings Etta Gilbert come this morning She washed the dishes and swept the floors That was a lot of help to me milked and churned cooked dinner washed dishes and then ?oded a while Then ironed some I am so anxious to hear from Marvin's folks and want to hear from Nellie I am a fraid some of them are sick There is so much sickness about now
A good day. We all staid at home except Henry. He went to Sunday School and to Mr. Jim Powers. Nellie went to Johnsons. This evening Nellie made pies for dinner. Today she bathed the children and dressed them. I milked and churned and helped about dinner some.
A rainy day most of the day. Ben plowed until he got wet. Hattie washed the clothes. Are on the fence now as wet as they can be. Nellie worked some button holes and got most of the dinner. She got a letter from Evylin saying she was sick. Nel has been about half crazie ever since. The children went to school. Come home wet to the skin in places. Hattie Gilbert and John got milk here today. I am so anxious for good weather so I can get out where I please and take the baby with me.
A cloudy day. Ben plowed all day today. Jim went to Renan for some seed. He sowed some peas, I think. I have not done anything much today. Cut some cress salit. Helped the children shuck a shock of corn. Milked and churned. Set a hen. Nellie made a canvas for the plant bed this morning and done some other sewing this evening. Hattie washed here today. The clothes did not dry much. Heard today that Lee had bin appointed commisioner of the I don't know what. Mrs Booker sent and got the quilting frames this morning. Guess she is fixin to quilt some.
A rainy morning. Ben went to Renan this morning. He went to see Kate Harvey a while. Got home at dinner time. Jim hung up the meat and smoked it today. Nellie got dinner. I got breakfast and churned and milked. I pieced on my quilt. Heard that Mildred is better. Do hope she may get well. I had a letter from Carrie today. [?hanles] Tomson sent here today for butter. Miss Reynolds was on the car with him. Mabel has been cross today. Ben brough a calf from Jim Farthings today.
A good day. I got breakfast and milked the cows. Then Ben and Nellie and I went to Straitstone. We bought some things. We come home and I got dinner. Oscar and Effie and Hellen and Hilda and Miss Finch come for some flowers. They would not stay for dinner. After dinner Ben and I went to Gretna. Come home by Johns Saw Tenier a few minutes then went to Curries. Found them all well. Got a lot of turnip greens. Got home o.k. Nellie had made her a dress and killed a chicken. Dressed it. Lelia Ward churned while I was gone. Henry is sick tonight.
A cloudy day. Ben and Jim put up wire all day fencing in a pasture. John Ward went to the mill with corn. He got his grinding done. I was glad to get some meal. I have bin lone some today for some one to talk to. The baby has bin good today. She slept some this evening. The other children went to school. They got in wood and got water and milked the cows and got supper.
A good day. Ben and Jim plowed today. Jim planted some in the garden. I planted some dahlias. The children went to school. Mabel staid out doors most of the day. I got breakfast and milked the cows. Emthied[?] the milk and churned. Fed the chickens and got dinner and washed the dishes and rocked Mabel to sleep and read the paper some and fed the chickens and milked the cows and got supper and washed dishes. Now we are ready to go to bed. I have to stay here so close that I dont know anything to write.
A very windy daty. The men worked on their land all day Ben tried to burn the honey suck in the grave yard. Did not burn well. The children went to school. Lelia come here a little while this morning. Hatie washed today. The wind blowed the clothes all about. They soon got dry. I have bin busy all day.Worked the button holes in Henrys shirts milked the cows twice churned once cooked breafast dinner and supper. Washed dishes tonight.
A good day. They boys hauled and plowed all the morning. I did as usual. Was busy and done nothing that you could see. Irvin Harvey and Kate come a few minutes this evening. Irvin come for seed corn. The boys corn was not fit for seed. This evening Ben and Jim Mabel and I went to Gretna. Bens car had a blow out. They worked on it a good while. Finely got it so it would run. We had as good trip as we could expect. Got home. Found things as good usual. I did not milk and was sorry for that.
A good day. Jim went to mill. He got back by 11 oclock. He work on the garden all evening manureing and planting. Ben plowed all morning. This evening John Ward and Ben went to the island for guano. They were late getting home. I have bin busy all day. Fixed Ednas sweater sleeves. Made them short enough. Mabel has bin good today. Played out doors most of the day. I have not seen any body to day except Lelia Ward. Edna helped milk tonight. We had or first mess of plant bed salit today.
A good day. The men folks plowed and worked on the land until twelve oclock. Then Ben carried the children and I to White Falls fishing. We did not catch any thing any acount. Had a good trip any way. Tonight Ben carried the children to Strait Stone to a show. Mabel is a sleep now. While I was gone Kate and Irvin Harvey come. I wish I had not gone. Jim worked in the garden some. They moved the pigs to a new lot today. I did not milk the cows tonight. I had early supper.
A windy day and colde. The coldest that I ever saw for the time of year. I am a fraid that all green things will be killed. We had storm last night. Rain and wind. I am glad it was no worse. The men put in fertilizer this morning. It has bein so colde and windy that they have not done much of any thing this evening. Mabel got a note from her daddy this evening. I hope he may get home tomorrow. I have milked, cooked, and churned, parched coffee and done nothing all day. Daysie the dog is missing tonight. I am afraid some one has killed her.
A good day. Jim and Ben has staid at home all day. Henry and Edna went to the church at Strait Stone. There was preaching there today. We had fried chicken and caned peache for dinner. Late this evening Marvin and family come and staid for supper. Carrie got supper while I milked. I am glad that they come. The baby is not so well but I hope she will swoon be better. The Emerson girls come a while this evening and played with the children. They are nice little girls. I think I have wanted to go some where ever so long but cant.
A good day. Very Warm. No rain yet to do any good. A few drops to day. All of the men plowed this morning. This evening Ben and Henry went to Altavista. Ben had his teeth worked on. Henry had one pulled. I went and picked some black berries. Mrs Booker come while I was gone. She did not stay long. Lelia Ward come to help me milk. The cow would let her milk her ok. There is lightning in sight to night. Do hope it will rain soon. I made nine glasses of jellie this morning.
A good day and very hot. The boys plowed tobacco. Henry painted a little. The roof was so hot that he could not do much. My days work was a busy one. I washed dishes. Then got breakfast. Then milked the cows. I made some jellie. Parched coffee. Washed dished. Killed and dressed two chickens. Fried them for dinner. Baked bread and coffee. Then had dinner and washed dishes. Then rested a while. Then went and picked one gallon of berrie. Picked over and fixed them to make preserves. Fed the chickens. Then got supper and washed dishes. Now I am ready to go to bed.
A good day. I got breakfast and milked at home. Alma washed dishes. Then we caught 32 chickens and put them in a crate. Ben helped us. Then he brought the children and I to Gretna and to Marvins. The children and Ben went home. I am at Marvins now. Carrie washed this morning. I have set a round most of the day. Lee come by here. He did not stay long. I would like so much to know how they made out with the cow. I do hope they will make out well. I am feeling very well tonight. Hope all are well at home.
A good day. I am at Tim Bennetts. Eat breakfast and dinner here. Then Gorden carried Lizzie and I to Jo Towlers. Found them well and seemed to be doing well. Then went to Billie Bennetts. They were all well but Sister Nan[n]ie. She looks feeble. Jimmie and Bessie was there and Ella and Elender and Lizzie Bennett come to see us. I was glad that I met with them once more. Gordon come for us about sundown. We had a pleasant evening. Lizzie got supper and milked. Gordon milked as she was late.
