A good day. We [are] at Willies yet. We ironed some this morning. This evening Effie and Cordie went to Hollie wood Cimetry. It is the granest place I ever saw. More beautiful monuments and tomb stones than one could think a bout that never was at a place of the sort.

I got two letters to day from home. Was glad to hear that all was well. Hope to be with them soon.

A little rain today. Effie and Corrie and I went to see Alma. She is getting on fine.

We went to the Confederate Musieum. Saw lots of things that I never expected to see.

We was out most all day. Eat dinner down town. It was not so good. Cost 50 cts. I bought Edna a doll today.

A good day. We staid at Willies. Cordie went to see the Dr. He said that she must have her eyes treated for two or three day so I have agreed to stay until Thursday. To night Effie & Miss Lillian Shelhorse and Cordie & William went to a show. Injoyed it very much.

A good day. We are at Wills yet. Guess they wonde what happened that we did not come home.

Wills children had company this evening. Miss Wood & Miss Thomas, Mr Haynes, Will and Julia Brumfield and Emily & I went walkin this evening. It was so dark that I could not see much. Cordie & Thelma went to see Alma Bennett tonight. Willie Brumfield & Jack Harvey left tonight, one for Bluefield & one for Ashland, N C to a doctors meeting. Effie is washing dishes now.

A good day. Cordie went to see the Drs this morning. I staid at Willies all day.

Cordie and I went to see the big ware houses. I was a fraid I might get lost but I did not. Effie & Mary both put new cuffs & collars on their coats. Miss Walker come with Cordie home from down town. Effie is makeing her a hat to wear to the parade.

Now it is bed time.

A rainy day. We are still at Richmond. They expected to have a parade here to day but it rained so they did not have it. There is all sorts of side showes and merry go rounds in the city. We that is Effie Brumfield and all of her children, Cordie Blair & I went to the city.

We went to see Alma Bennett. She is in the best of spirits. They have taken off the cast that they had on her leg. She has a room mate that has a baby. Alma says that she likes her fine. Willie & Jack are away yet.

A rainy day. We went down town. Come home and eat dinner. Effie locked the doors and could not unlock them so she got a man to come and bring a ladder and climed up on the porch and went in at the window. We have eaten supper and will go down town to night I guess. Hope to be at home this time tomorrow and hope to find them all well. Cordie got her glasses today.

A rainy morning. Clear this evening.

Josie cut out a dress this morning & hemed two sheets. I got dinner.

This evening I went to Marvins. Marvin went to Strait Stone to preaching. I come by the barn and tied some tobacco. Josie had supper a bout done when I come to the house.

Ben has gone to Strait Stone to night to and Odd Fellows meeting.

I got a letter from Effie Brumfield today. One from Fanny Emerson yesterday.

Tuesday January 4, 1921

A good day. Ben and Jim stripped tobacco all day. Some of the neighbors worked the road. Josie went to George Blairs. Denia was gone to see Mrs Anderson. Josie said they was just as nice to her as could be. Ethel sent me a nice cup & sauser for a xmas gift.

We started a box to Effie Brumfield today. I hope she may get it ok.

The children went to school a gain today. Heard this morning that Clack Hubbards baby is very sick. I hope he may get well soon.

Julia Fergerson is still at home on account of her baby being bad off with a cough. I have bin reading tonight.

Tuesday March 29, 1921

A clear colde day. There was ice this morning. I am expecting the fruit to be killed tonight.

Jim has not come yet. We dont know what to think is the matter. Ben cleaned up the land and plowed some today. Henry and Edna went to school today. They are in this room a sleep to night.

I sowed a border on Effies quilt to day. Josie got some salit for dinner to day. She worked on a dress for Mabel a while this evening. I went to Marvins a few minutes this evening. Carrie had finished a dress for Hazel.

A good day. Colde for April. A big frost this morning. Ben & Jim went to the island for guano. Got home by dinner. Carried some guano.

Josie made her a dress to day. I got dinner. This evening Effie & Hellen Brumfield and Virginia Harvey come. We were very glad to see them. I walked with them as far as Carries.

Sunday April 24, 1921

A beautiful day. Ben and family except Henry went to Mr Jim Powers and Rob Hubbards. Ben & Mr Mayhew & Richard Wooding went to Hubbards. Went to the fish trap but did not get any fish. They got home at dark.

I staid at home most of the day. I went to Marvins. They went to Kate Harveys. I went with them. Kate had company. Dr Wigginton and Pearl, Effie and Hellen Brumfield, Miss Virginia Moses, two of the Farmer children.

I come home and fed the chickens. Brought water and made coffee & baked bread.

Thursday May 19, 1921

A good day. Jim worked the garden. Ben fixed a mellon patch and went to the mill at Cedar Forest. I went with him. Edna & Mabel went. I fished a little while. Caught 4 fish all small.

Josie and Edna & Franklin & Mabel was all at Marvins this evening. I am glad that they come to see Carrie. Effie & Hellen and Doris Brumfield and Virginia Harvey was at Marvins this evenin. The first time they have come this year. Effie & Hellen will stay all night at Mags to night.

I shelled two bushels of corn this morning.

Saturday September 3, 1921

A hot dry day. Ben fired on his tobacco all day. Jim and Henry suckered tobacco until dinner.

Josie staid at the barn while Ben carried Jim to Gretna. Ben brought Elsie East & Effie Brumfield home from Gretna. Oscar Brumfield carried his mother and Hugh and Aubra Brumfield and Ralph East to White Falls. We caught several fish. Jim Thomson was there with his car. He brought us part the way home and I was glad that he did.

A good day. Ben went to Eanes to work. Jim plowed. Ben come home and went for the teacers. Miss Fergerson & Miss Treer & Effie Brumfield. The proffesor did not come. John Brumfield come this evening. I am glad that he come. Ben carried the ladies home. Josie went with him. Josie cooked supper for them.

Marvin went to John Smiths this evening. Carried all the children. I went as far as Mr Johnsons. Paul Smith and I staid at the river. Marvin bought four pigs from Mr John Smith. Hope he may have good luck with them.

Tuesday December 20, 1921

A good day. Ben sawed wood at Reynols. Jim hauled chaff and put it on the land. Norman Booker had the horse Jake a while this morning. Henry & Edna went to school. Josie has bin cleaning up the house and yard all day. I got dinner and washed the dishes while Josie cracked and picked walnuts for a cake. I got a letter from Effie Brumfield. Also a year book from the family, a nice one. I am glad of it. Hope I may live to write it out. I feel that I am in the way now. I am olde fashioned and slow to get about. All of the young ones that live to be olde will know how I feel.

A clear colde day. Jim worked on a basket. Ben & Marvin went to Gretna for Marvins car. He would not have it after going. They walked up there & most of the way back. Josie has done the most of the work today. I feel mighty bad tonight. I hope that Franklin is better. I had a letter from Effie Brumfield to day. I was glad that she wrote. Johnson Reynolds was here a few minutes today.

A bad day. Snowed all day. Marvin & boys come down & got their [?] cut. Josie milked for me this morning the first time any one has milked for me this winter. I have felt bad all day. Franklin is better I hope. I wrote two letters to day one to Effie & one to John. I do hope I may feel better by morning.

7 oclock The baby will be 5 months old tomorrow and weighs 12 pound.

A good day. The men folks sawed wood for Owen & commenced for Marvin. Josie got dinner. I got breakfast & milked the cows and churned then went to George Blairs. I had a good day. Isla was not at home. I missed her. They were all busy. Mrs Hutcherson went to see Mrs Allen this evening. I got a letter from Effie Brumfield this evening.

A rainy morning & rainy again tonight. Ben & Jim finished the hen house. I cut salit this morning. Henry went to school to day. Virginia Wooding played with Edna this evening. I went to Carrie this evening and got some eggs to set my hens. Tonight Effie & [?] They had an entertainment at the church to night. I would of bin glad to go but the roads is so bad that you cant run a car. 9 oclock

A good day. Nellie & Evylin has bin here all day. The boys has bin walkin around most of the day. Marvin and family come this evening. Kate & Charley and Effie B come and staid until bed time. Effie will stay all night. Josie and I got dinner. Dick Wooding got his arm broke crankin his car yesterday. The patrons of the school met at the school house last night and talked a bout the school for another term.

A cloudy day. Ben and Ben plowed until noon this evening. Ben [?] & Nellie and Evylin to [?] on their way home Effie Brumfield stayed with us last night. She went home as Ben went. Josie & I got dinner. I went to [?] this evening. [Dr?] and Mrs Owen come while I was there to see Marvin about the road. Mabel is not well to night. Heard this evening that the guano is at the [?]. 9 o clock

A cloudy day and a little rain. The boys finished planting Bens tobacco this morning. Ben went to Mount Airy this morning. Grace & Effie Brumfield come and eat dinner with us. They walked. Ben carried them home. He bought a hay stack from Ollie Kellie. He is to pay $40.00 for it. Josie baked a cake. We killed two chickens for dinner. Carrie & the children come a little while. Marvin got a new car to day and I am glad. Jim planted some white beans this evening.

A good day. I come home this evening from Tim Bennetts. Marvin brought me home. We come by the Ward olde place. The land there was sold today. I found all well. Charley & Irvin Harvey and Miss Fanny Power and Miss Bettie Moses and Effie Brumfield and Virginia Harvey went to Banister Bridge and went in batheing. Got back here at 9 oclock and eat supper. 10 oclock

A good day. Fanny & Effie Power & Brumfield was here to day. Ben carried them to Lee Brumfields this evening. Ben finished cutting oats this morning. This evening he went to Cedar Forest. He carried Josie and all the children and I. I went with them to the creek. While they bathed I fished. Caught 7 fish. We got home on time to do our work. Carrie has bin sick to day. It is raining.

A very hot day and a hard cloud tonight. Kate staid here all day. Julia B and I went to town. I bought a hand pocket. [?] Willie Brumfield went to Norfolk to day. Said he would come home to night. Effie had her washing done to day. Effie had rools for supper. I have not felt so well today. Hope I will feel better by morning.

A rainy day. We Will & Kate and Effie [and] I come to Washington. We got dinner & rode a round a lot. Saw beautiful flowers & building. Staid at the Driscoll Hotel. Paid two $2:00 a peice for a bed and 70 cts for break[fast]. I am wasting on the 20.00. We went to a picture show last night. Walked a bout ten blocks. I enjoyed some of it very much. Was tired last night.
