A good day. Jim and Ben worked on the barn shelter. Ben & Josie went to Jim Thomsons and got pears to preserve. Nellie got some berries to make jellie. I made 16 glasses of jellie this evening and made three quarts of jam. Evylin has not come down stairs to day. Hope she will be a bout in the morning. I got some snaps from Marvin to day.
A cloudy day and rain this evening. The men pulled leaves. Josie got dinner & caned tomatoes. I made some jellie. Josie ironed some. Earl Bennett come over here a while. He is at George Blairs tonight. I killed two chickens to cook in the morning. Josie made some nice pies. I intend going to Richmond to morrow if nothing happens to hinder. 8 oclock
A good day. Ben went to Gretna this morning for repairs for the reaper to go to cutting wheat. They cut all evening. Got in walk. Irvin helped to shock. Mrs. [Freid] picked some berries. This morning Edna helped her. [Mrs. Freid] caned nine quarts. Hattie's children picked three gallons.
This evening I intend to make jellie of them. Mrs Wooding sent Josie some light bread today. Mabel is sick today. Josie is suffering bad tonight. I am so sleepy that I can't stay awake. Mrs. Booker gave us a mess of [books] today. They willed the [easel lastnig]
A good day. The boys worked on their tobacco all day. Nellie has bin very busy today. she got dinner & churned gathered some grapes to make jellie. I went to Miss Willie Woodings burial. There was a big crowd at the burial. I went with Mr Booer[sic] & family. It was kind of him to take me. Mrs Car has him up all day or nearly so. This evening I cut some grass in the garden and gathered a few snaps for dinner tomorrow. Hattie washed here today. The children and I got the clothes in tonight.
A good day. Jim & Henry worked in the tobacco. Ben went to [Renan?]. He was one of the judge[s] of the election. [Irvin? or John?] Harvey come for me & brought me home. The children went with me. I went to Kate Harveys & staid a little while. Jamie Gravely was there. Virginia & Jamie was fixing up their supper to take on a hay ride. They have a beautiful night for their ride. Nellie made some jellie & caned[sic] tomatoes this morning. Mrs Car strung the snaps & shelled butter beans & churned. I gathered tomatoes and corn. I cooked it all. We had two [water?] mellons.
A good day. The men worked in their tobacco most of the day. Late this evening Ben went to Mr Dews for fruit. the children and I went with him. He got pears & apples and plums and some snaps. We come by the Store and got sugar. Nellie made some jellie & caned some tomatoes. I got most of the dinner. Mrs Car is here yet. Josie has not felt so good today. There has not bin any one to see her to day. I milked when I got back from Dews as it was about dark.
A good day until near night then a rain & wind and some hail. I hope not enough to damage any thing much. Ben & Henry cleared up a barn getting ready to cut tobacco. Ben has gone to Bookers barn now. Mrs Car bathed the children this evening. Mrs Dews sent me some snaps by Mr Nat Wooding. I am glad of them. I made one jar of preserves & one of pickle, and near a gallon of jellie made the damsons that Carrie brought all in jellie.
A good day. The men cut corn. The children went to school. I got dinner & churned. Nellie milked and caned some apples & made jellie. Daisy & Queen both (col[oured)] washed. Mrs Dr Owen come to see Josie a while this evening. Josie has bin lead off all day. Fanny Power come back tonight. Miss Janie Gravely come with her. She did not stay but a few minutes. Mabel has bin good all day today. I broke my glasses to day. A Mrs Layne come here begging today.
A good day. No rain yet. Ben and Henry went to Gretna. They had a big tim. They eat dinner with Marvin and Carrie. Jim did not go. He worked most of the day. I made three quarts of black berrie preserves and killed two and fried them and baked a cake. That was our dinner. Vegetables has a bout dried up. John Ward had the team and went to Level Run to a big gathering of some sort. I gathered some berries. Intend making jellie tomorrow. The children are all in a glee tonight eating candy and blowing up their balloons. Good night.
A good day. The men worked on their tobacco. Ben walked to Renan for a plow point and some bolts. He got 25 pound of sugar. I made some jellie this morning. I picked a half gallon of berries and made a pie. I cooked cabbage and potatoes. This evening I picked a gallon of berries. I boiled them and put them to drain. Intend making jellie in the morning. The children wanted to go see Aunt Kate this evening. I did not feel like I could go and walk and there was no other way that I could go. I keep thinking that some one will come to see me.
A good day and very hot. The boys plowed tobacco. Henry painted a little. The roof was so hot that he could not do much. My days work was a busy one. I washed dishes. Then got breakfast. Then milked the cows. I made some jellie. Parched coffee. Washed dished. Killed and dressed two chickens. Fried them for dinner. Baked bread and coffee. Then had dinner and washed dishes. Then rested a while. Then went and picked one gallon of berrie. Picked over and fixed them to make preserves. Fed the chickens. Then got supper and washed dishes. Now I am ready to go to bed.
A good day. Jim and Ben suckered tobacco until twelve. Then they went to the election. Children and I went to Kates a while. Got a fraid it was going to rain and Oscar Brumfield brought us home. There was the biggest crowd at Renan that I ever saw there on election day. John Ward and Henry plowed some late tobacco. They finished in time for early supper. Ben and Jim has gone to Renan to hear from the election. Nellie boiled some grapes for jellie. I hope she may have good [luck?].
A very hot day. No rain to stop work. There is a cloud rising now. I do hope it wont be very bad. Ben and Jim helped Norman work on his fire boxes this evening. I went to Mr. Bookers this evening. Mrs. Booker was not at home. She was gone to preaching. Mr. Emerson's girls and a Miss Reynolds come here this evening. I was glad that they come to see Edna. We had some nice mellons for them. Nellie made some jellie this morning. There is plenty of grapes now. William Brumfield was at Kate Harvey's yesterday.
A good day. Ben helped Mr. Booker work on his barn. The rest of them suckered tobacco. Isla Blair come over here a few minutes this morning. I was glad to see her. Heard today that Buck Mills was hurt yesterday by a car running over him. I hope he may soon be out a gain. Ray Booker come to see Franklin this evening. Mabel and Franklin has bad colds. Have not heard form Edna yet. Nellie heard from Evelyn today. Lelia Ward washed for us today. Nellie gathered some grapes to make jellie today.
A good day and very hot. Ben is not able to work today. He brought me to Gretna and to Marvins this evening. Mabel come with us. Ben carried Nellies trunk home. Jim and Claud Fitz was comeing from the store. This evening Franklin went to Mr. Bookers. Booker commenced to cut tobacco today. Henry B. and John Ward helped him. Lee Brumfield is at Marvins. Tonight he is trying to find out a bout the election. Carrie was makeing some jellie this evening. She has peaches to can. She has nice snaps.
