A clear colde day. Ben moved the stove from the barn to the cabbin in the woods and cut wood fixin for a dance. Josie baked some cakes. I killed and cooked two chickens. Josie made sand witches and carried up there. Hellen and Virginia has bin here all day. Elsie and Bulah come in here. Elsie gave me some candy and Bulah gave oranges. Virginia gave me a box of candy.

I hope they may enjoy the dance. I had rather they had not had it but nothing else would not do. I am a fraid that there is so many there that they cant have a good time. I am so sleepy that I hardly can write.

A good day. Ben worked on Owens house this morning.

This evening we all went to Lee Brumfields. They had a very nice dinner turkey and boiled ham cakes and pickles. Elsie East and Isla and Cordie Blair was there.

While we were away some one left some presents for Josie and I.

I got a pair of bed room slippers. John sent them. Paul Bennett sent me a box of nice candy and Grace Brumfield gave me a box of candy. I thank them both.

Monday, March 3, 1919

A good day. Ben & Owen cut half the day in the pines. Ben went this evening to a cutting match at George Blairs. Jim worked on the orchard all day & did not finish it. Josie is feeling some better of her colde. Bettie Rosser washed for Josie to day. She washes fine. Heard to day that Elsie East has a new boy. I hope they get on well.

A good day. Jim & Ben staid at home all day.

Josie got most of the dinner.

I went to Mr. Owens twice. I went & dressed the baby and come home. Then Mrs Owen fainted and I went back a while. Mr Owen carried his neice home to day. Lee & Elsie come and eat dinner with us.

Elsie had her new baby with her. I think he is a fine baby. I was very glad that they came. It is the first time that Lee has bin here this year or Elsie for that matter.

I have not seen or heard from Marvins to day. Hope they are all well.

Henry went to Mag Brumfields to day. Said he had a fine time.

A beautiful day. Ben & Josie & Jim went to Chatham. Ben & Josie got home a bout night. Jim staid up there.

Henry & Edna and I said[sic] at home until twelve. Eat our dinner & then went to Marvins. Marvin carried Reese & Henry and I to White Falls. We caught a fish a piece. They would not bite. Odie and Lottie Kellie and Elsie East was there.

Mrs Johnson come down there where I was a few minutes. There was plenty of frost this mornin.

A good day. Jim & Ben went to Long Island and got some beet pulp. Josie got dinner. I planted some potatoes slips. Henry helped me.

This evening Elsie & Hellen came. Elsie brought her baby. Josie kept it while Elsie gathered some cherries. I am sorry that I was not at home.I would of bin if I had knowed they were coming. Mollie Reynolds and I and Henry went after some strawberries. We found some.

I have not seen any of Marvins people to day. I allways miss them.

A good day. Ben carried Nellie & Evylin to Gretna this morning. He got back home at 10:20 oclock. They have cut tobacco this evening.

Josie sewed today. She two gowns then gathered some snaps for dinner tomorrow.

Marvin finished cutting tobacco today.

I went to Marvins this evening. Carrie sent Henry some papers to read. He now has one reading. I am going to put out the light as he will have to work tomorrow. Will need all the sleep he can get.

I got a letter from Elsie East this evening. Was glad to hear from her.

Monday March 14, 1921

Monday March 14, 1921

A good morning. Rain this evening. Jim shucked corn to day. Ben plowed. Josie washed this morning. This evening she washed up the dineing room floor.

Elsie East called me this evening and said she could get a horse to take me fishing. I was a fraid to go. A fraid it would rain and it did. I was glad that we did not go. Hope that some day I can go but so many things happen. I may never go a gain. Eula Mayhew is home tonight to stay with Edna. Mr Mayhew got his truck in mud so that Jim & Ben had to help him get it out.

Tuesday March 15, 1921

A good day. Ben shucked corn about all day. Jim until dinner. Then he went to the mill at White Falls. He carried Franklin with him. Josie commenced a dress for herself to day. I went to Cedar Forest. Elsie East carried me. She had a horse and buggy. We fished a while. Did not catch any thing worth anything. We had a good time any way.

Henry has commenced to sleep up stairs.

Sunday March 27, 1921

A good day. Ben & family staid at home. Leslie Roark and Beaula & Elsie East & the children and Gladice & Hugh and Hildna all come a while this evening. We were all glad to see them. Emmet Brumfield come a while. Paul Smith went with him home. Ren Worsham carried a truck load to Gladice to day. I am so glad that he did it. Gave some of them pleasure I know.

Johnson Reynols come for me. Robert was driveing the car. I spent a pleasant day. Posie & family and Reubin was there.

Mollie had a nice dinner. I want to be thankful for all that is done for me.

A cloudy cool day. Ben sawed wood at Marvins. Jim worked on his tobacco ground. Josie wet a lot of gingham this morning and ironed it this evening. I went to Mags this evening. Mr Padget even taken me and gave me a ride. I was glad of it. Found all well at Mags. I come by Renan. Hubbard was plowing. Kate Hubbard was freezing cream. I then come by Reynols's. There was no one at home but Julia and children the rest of them was gone to Danville. Kate Harvey went with them. I come by Mr Farthings. Mrs Farthing has nice little girl a week olde. Her name is Elsie May. They had a lot of company. I then come by Marvins and then home. Josie had supper a bout ready.

A good day. We all staid at home all day. Mrs Car & Mr Hobson is here yet. We cooked turnip salit and fried two chickens for dinner. No one come to see us.

Don't know any thing to write. I talked with Grace Brumfield to night. Did not hear anything new worth writing. Elsie was to see them today. Jack Harvey is at home to night.

Saturday September 3, 1921

A hot dry day. Ben fired on his tobacco all day. Jim and Henry suckered tobacco until dinner.

Josie staid at the barn while Ben carried Jim to Gretna. Ben brought Elsie East & Effie Brumfield home from Gretna. Oscar Brumfield carried his mother and Hugh and Aubra Brumfield and Ralph East to White Falls. We caught several fish. Jim Thomson was there with his car. He brought us part the way home and I was glad that he did.

A cloudy day and a little rain. Jim & Ben planted corn. Josie staid at home and done the work. She fixed me a lunch. I gave her 25 cts. Mrs Dews & Terrow [?] went to the island. They carried me and Elsie Scruggs. I am so glad that she let me go. Ben carried me to Mr Dewss. Kate come and staid a few minutes. Am sorry but cant helpe it now. I have bin a sleep.

Cloudy and some rain. We all have bin at home all day. We had a surprise. Billie and Nanie Bennett and Allen and Elsie Boling come. I was glad that they come. Hope that they got home O K. Would like to know. I would of liked to had things better but am glad things were no worse. Carrie baked some pies for me. I was very glad of them.

24th A good day. Ben & Josie went to Charlottsvill to day. Josie went to the hospidle [?]. Mrs Car is here. Jim staid at home all day. He has the baby to night trying to get her to sleep. Lee & Grace, Ben East & Elsie and the children and Kate and Pearl and Carrie and family all come today. I am a fraid that the baby will cry most of the night. I do hope that Josie may come so she can stay.

A good day. The men folks got up hay & mowed some. Mrs. Edmons send us a bucket of snaps ready to put in the pot and a bag of apples. Mrs. Hutchenseon sent some light bread. [D__?] Blair come to see us to day. Mrs. Booker come. to day [Lula? Mayhen?] & Elsie [Carter?] come and played with the children a while. The red cow have hurt her self so that she can't hardly get about. I want to see Carrie so bad. I cant hardly stay at home and cant go

A beautiful day. Jim and Ben staid at home all day. Lizzie was here. she helped me get dinner. We cooked Turnip salit and a chicken. We had a nice cake. Today was Mabel's Birth day. She is three years olde. This evening Ben & Elsie East & Gladis Brumfield come a few minutes. Tim Bennett & Gordon & [Chesley?] Bennett & a Mr Hedrick come by for Lizzie. I did hate for her to go home as we have not got any body to help to do the work here now.

A good day. We all eat dinner at home. Hinny & Edna went to Strait Stone to Sunday School. Jim started to Gretna with a load of tobacco. Less [Ro...k?]& his wife & baby & Elsie East come a few minutes. Nellie went with them. Was going to Chatham to night. Lee & Oscar come a few minutes for Nellie's hand pocket that she forgot. Mr Steven Davis and his wife & Robert Mayhew come to see Josie today. Mollie & Johnson come & brought Josie a nice box of some things to eat. Elsie brought grapes. Alice Thomson brought her a box of candy.

A rainy bad day most of the day. The wind is blowing tonight. Were all at home at dinner except Jim. I got dinner & churned. Milked morning and evening. Henry went to Mount Amy this morning. Mrs. Booker and Ethel Wooding and Elsie East come to see Josie a few minutes today. Josie has bin feeling bad today. I have seen people moveing today. They had six one horse wagons. The most I had seen in a long time. Dont know who they were that was moveing. They had a bad time for it.

A cloudy day again this evening The boys stripped tobacco. The children went to school; come home nearly wet. Josie has not suffered so much today as she did yesterday.

Jim and Ben had bad colds I hope they wont get sick. We heard today that Sam Owen family has flue. There is a lot of sickness a bout. I have bin busy most all day. Done all the cooking that has been done. Milked & churned dried clothes by the fire There have not been any one to see Josie. Today I got a letter from Elsie Brumfield this evening I want to hear from Carrie's folks so bad.

A rainy morning. Ben started the engine. We have elect tonight. The first time in a long time. Jim shut up the chickens tonight. He wants to sell some of them soon. Ben went to Renan this evening. Kate is getting on well so they say. There is a lot of sickness yet. I got a letter from Elsie East today.

Mr. Thomson sent here for some butter today. They are all sick except for one or two. Nellie and Jim ground the sausage and made it . I was at the wash house. [??iled] up the lard and cleaned the heads and feet. It was a nasty mean job. The lard is so full of water. It can't be any wetter. I got a valentine today.

Cloudy all day. No rain yet. All the children and I went to Mag Brumfield's and spent the day. Mag had a nice dinner. Had the first turkey that I seen this Xmas. Ben staid at home all day. Mrs. Kellie was at Mag's. 11:30 o'clock Sunday night. Lee and Grace and Elsie East and two children and Hugh Brumfield come and have just gone. I was glad that they come. I enjoyed their company ever so much. Hildah staid with Edna tonight. Henry and Christenia Reynols and Doris Brumfield and Jamie and Delma Owen went to Ren Worsham's. None of them were at home.
