38 Days Past 327 to come

A good day. Ben & Jim and Owen hauled some feed for the cows then stripped tobacco until twelve after dinner. They tramped a plant bed. Ben mended his fire place then we all stripped tobacco. Josie got dinner and ironed. The children Henry and Edna went to school. Franklin come to the barn to tell us dinner was ready. Reese come this morning & brought me some little aprons to work the button holes in. Mr Mayhew come at twelve to get Ben to phone for the doctor for Mrs Mayhew. Tonight Ben and Josie has gone to a dance at Mrs Gravelys. To night a pedlar come and wanted to stay all night. Ben would not let him. I was sorry for him.

Thursday November 10, 1921

A good day. Jim & Ben stripped tobacco. Josie helped to tye this evening. I stayed at the house and mended some overalls. Franklin & Mabel went to the barn but did not stay long. Josie got dinner. I ironed some this morning. Ben got the light engine to start at twelve oclock. We was all glad that it started with out a trip to Gretna. Henry & Edna went to school. I have not seen any of Marvins folks today. Oh how I am going to miss them when they are gone if I live to see that time. Jim & Ben have not come from the barn yet. 10 oclock

Friday November 11, 1921

A good day. Ben & Jim stripped tobacco all day and tonight. Josie and I got dinner. Josie ironed some this evening. I went to Marvins. They were well. Normon Booker brought two loads of stalk feed there this evening. I am going to miss Marvins family so much. I dont like to think a bout there moveing.

Saturday November 12, 1921

A colde windy day. Ben stripped tobacco. He finished a curing. Henry tied all the time that Ben was sorting and Josie part of the time. Jim went to Chatham. Today was Nellies birth day. Reese Smith carried Jim and Paul and I went. I bought several things. Reubin and Robbert Reynols come with Reese as far as their home. They had bin to Black Stone to play football and was on their way back to Chatham. Josie ironed to day and got dinner and supper. I went to Marvins this evening. Carrie was ironing. Henry & Ben went to Renan late this evening. Ben bought a peice of beef for Sundays dinner.

Friday November 18, 1921

A good day. Very warm for Nov. Jim stripped tobacco all day and tonight. Henry went to the barn tonight. Ben went to Danville yesterday. He has just come home tonight. He solde tobacco today. Solde very well for what it was. So sorry. Josie ironed a big pile of clothes today and raked on the yard some. I got dinner. I churned. This evening I went to Marvins. I guess they will call the baby Julia. I am glad of it. Mabel has bin good today for her to be. All of the rest of the children went to school.

Thursday November 24, 1921

A good day and warm. There was a rain bow was in the clouds this morning. It has rained a little tonight. Ben & Jim shucked some corn. Then they comence to cover the shed. Riped off the shingles. Josie ironed some this morning. I churned & killed a chicken. We cooked some parships the first time this fall. Kate Harvey come and brought us some salit. Reese Smith carried me to White Falls. I caught several fish. Paul Smith caught two fish. We come back by Renan store. Jim Thomson and family was there. Four of Mag Brumfield children was at the store. They all looked well. Mr Meguary[?]was here this morning. We bought a few things from him.

Friday November 25, 1921

A good day. Some cooler. Jim & Ben covered the shed to the stable. Got it a bout done. Marvin carried a load of feed to his new home. Josie got dinner. I ironed some this evening. Denia Blair come over a while. She has a bad colde. I was glad that she come. Lee Brumfield killed a beef. We got a peice of it and Carrie got some. Reese went to Renan for it. I am glad to get it. The children went to school today. Sellie Blair gave Henry a mess of salit. He forgot and left it at the school house.

Friday December 2, 1921

Rain this morning and this evening. Henry went to school. Marvin carried his children & Henry. Ben worked on Marvins car the most of the day. Jim come home to night. Ben met him and brought him home. Josie made me three aprons and got dinner. This evening she ironed some collars and six nice shirts. I ironed all the washing excep the shirts and collars. I went to Marvins. Carrie was makeing Hazel a dress. Henry brought us a pound of butter from Otho Blairs to day. Mabel is not well tonight. I hope she may be well soon. Carrie talked with Ethel this evening.

Thursday December 15, 1921

A beautiful day. Ben went to Mr Edmons's to saw wood. Was there all day. Jim shucked corn. The Mormon preachers went a way early this morning. I am not sorry that they staid here last night. Josie ironed all the morning. I got dinner. This evening I went to Mr Bookers. Sallie & Isla Blair was there. Evry thing looked very nice up there but oh how I mis Marvin & Carrie. No one knows but my self. I have peiced on a quilt some tonight. Mabel has tried her self tonight and tried Josie. I am sorry for them both and cant them. Jim has a bad cough. I wish he could get well of it. The children went to school to day.

Friday December 16, 1921

A partly day. Jim & Ben hauled up some corn stalks this morning. This evening they cut wood for Norman Booker. Tonight Ben & Josie went to Strait Stone. Did not stay long. Mabel staid up until they come home. Marvin Smith come today. He eat dinner with us. Josie ironed most allday. I got dinner except make the biskit. Josie done that. I stewed pumpkin the most of the day. Lizzie Bennett and Lee Brumfield gave me a pumpkin. We did not make one this year. Eleck Gilbert hauled and put wood under shelter to day. I am glad of it. The children went to school.

A colde day partly cloudy. Hailing and snowing tonight. Jim shucked some corn and toated stalks for the cows. Ben sawed wood at Kate Harveys. Brought the engine & saw home tonight. Ben went to Strait Stone tonight. He went for medicine for Mabel. She has a colde and is very hoarse. We are a fraid she will have the croup. Josie ironed today and worked on her cakes some. I got dinner. Denia Blair come a little while. I was glad that she come. Two of the Doss girls come a few minutes. They borrowed a last. Said they wanted to mend shoes. I am sorry that it is weathering. Did hope it would stay good until Jim could get home. We sent Kates turkey to her this morning.

Saturday December 24, 1921

A cloudy day. Rain tonight. Ben went to William Gilberts this morning and carried some things for them that Carrie sent and Josie sent some things two for their children. Henry & Ben hunted some this evening. Did not get any game. We boiled some ham. I boiled the last of the hogs feet. Josie baked a cake. She ironed all the morning. Irvin Harvey come this morning and got their cow & little calf. The children has bad colds. They cant hardly wait for Santy to come. They are a sleep now all but Henry. I guess he is a wake. Well I am glad that Xmas is here. Hope nothing bad will happen. I got a nice box of candy from BlacksBurg today & a letter from John & a card from Julia Fergerson.

A clear colde day. We all staid at home today. Lee & Hugh Brumfield eat dinner with us. Ben & Lee hunted rabbits. They killed several. Josie ironed some tonight. I am disapointed. I was in hopes to get to see Carrie this Xmas but now I dont expect I will. It has got so colde. Hugh Brumfield is spending the night with Henry. I have bin reading to night. nearly eleven oclock

A clear windy day. Jim & Ben cut wood, Owen plowed. The children went to school. Josie ironed some and cut a dress out for her self.

I got dinner & churned.

Johnson Reynolds come by here, wanted to see the boys a bout selling guano.

I got a letter from Evylin Brumfield to day. 8 30 oclock

A clear day, cold & windy. Jim & Ben went to Mr Hutchersons and helped a bout buriin Mrs Mayhew's twin babies.

Jim went home this evening. Marvin carried him a part of the way.

Josie got dinner. I staid with the baby this evening. I sewed some on my quilt.

Ben tried to fix Henry's air rifle and mashed his thumb right bad, hope it will get well soon. Josie is at the dinning room ironing now.

A cloudy day. Some ice all day. The men could not work much. Ben shod the horses & Jim went to Renan & then hung up the meat to night. Ben & Henry has gone to Marvins. Josie got dinner. I ironed some. I sewed on my quilt. The children went to school. 10 oclock

A cloudy morning. Clear this evening. Ben & Jim got wood all day. Josie got dinner. I ironed all the morning. Carrie come down a few minutes. This evening Josie & Franklin & Mabel went to Marvins. A man come here this evening selling medicine. We did not buy any thing from him. Tonight Jim & Ben has gone to Renan. I sewed on my quilt some tonight.

A clear colde day. Jim & Ben cut and split some wood. Went to Renan for gas to saw some wood. Ben has gone hunting tonight. Josie ironed some & got dinner. I sewed on a quilt. Mr. Owen went to Strait Stone. He got ten pound of sugar for me. Guess it will cost 20 cts. per pound. The children went to school to day. 9 oclock

A good day. Jim & Ben & Henry sawed wood at the wood pile. Tonight Ben & Jim went to Strait Stone. Henry & Edna went to Marvins. Josie ironed some & I finished my quilt. Josie washed a big washing this morning. I got dinner.

The boys walked to Strait Stone to night.

A good day. Ben went to Renan this morning. Went to John Hutcherson this evening. Bought some oil. Tonight he has gone to Will Mayhews to a dance. The children went to school. Franklin is sick. Josie got dinner. Tonight she is ironing. I sewed on a quilt some.

A beautiful morning. Cloudy and the wind blowing tonight. Ben cut some and burnt brush all day. Josie ironed some and got dinner and ironed some more. I sewed on a quilt and finished it this evening. Lizzie come tonight. Carrie come with her. Staid a few minutes. Henry & Edna went to Marvins tonight. Heard from Wills folks they are sick with flue. Rob Hubbards folks are sick.

A cloudy day & rain this evening. Ben went to the saw mill. Jim cut. Josie ironed some. I killed two hens this morning. Denia Blair come and spent most of the day with us. She went by Carries and staid a few minutes. Some of her folks come after her. I was glad that they did come. I went with her to Marvins. Today 55 years ago I was married 1865. Most all of the chldren is complaining. I do hope they will soon be well.

A cloudy all day & rain this evening. Jim & Ben cut wood til noon. Ben helped Marvin kill hog. Henry went to school. The baby is bad off with colde. I think the other children are some better off. To day was a holiday. We did not get any mail. We miss it. I ironed some today & Josie ironed some. I churned. We both got dinner. Josie baked some nice tea cakes.

A clear good day. The men cut & mauled all day. Josie done most all the work. Milked & brought water. She fixed to wash in the morning. Henry & Edna went to school. I think Franklin is improveing. Mabel has bin cross. I dont think she is well. I dont feel well a bit. Do hope I will be well soon. I try to ask the lord to take care of us. That is all the help that will do any good. Franklin come in tonight to stay with me a while. Josie is ironing tonight.

A bright colde day. The men folks did not do much out of doors. Josie done what was done in the house. I cut quilt peices and [?]rsed the baby a little. Ben helped Josie milk this morning for the first time this winter. I had a letter from John this evening. I am so glad when I can hear and they are well.

A good day. The best that we have had this year. The boys finished sawing wood for Marvin this morning then put on the plant bed cloths. Jim Emerson passed here to day. Henry & Edna went to school to day. I got dinner. Josie ironed. This evening we all went to Carries a while. I come by the turnip patch & cut some sallet for dinner to morrow. It looks like rain tonight. I do hope it wont rain.

A rainy day so no one could work out of doors. The boys staid at the shop most of the day. I got dinner. Had saled the firs that we have had. Josie ironed most of the day. Henry went to school. Lucius Graveley quit teaching yesterday. Ben made the children a waggon to play with.

A rainy morning. The children did not go to school. Mrs. Wooding come by this evening and left Virginia to play with Edna. The men folks planted posts to put up a fence. Josie ironed. I got dinner. Got three boxes of borax from Russel Peak and finished my soap makeing.

Josie heard that there is to be a party at Mr Powers to night. They were not invited.

A clear colde day. Ben & Jim & Owen worked on a ditch this morning. Ben went to Strait Stone this evening. The surveyor was at Thomsons. Johnson Reynolds & Marvin Smith went with Ben. Josie ironed. I went to Marvins this evening. Henry & Edna went to school. Lee Brumfield passed here to day. Stoped a few minutes. Marvin is here to night. They are all at the dining room. Josie is at work on Mabels flannel

A good day. Jim & Ben and Owen hauled out the straw and put it on the land. Major Rison come here to day. Josie got dinner and ironed what time she could. The school closed today. Carrie and the children come a while this evening. Josie & Carrie made Edna a hat. They embrodier it some. I think it is pretty. I got my check for the interest on my Liberty Bonds.
