BOYS SENT BY EXPRESS.

Made the Trip Across the Country Tagged Just Like Other Freight.

New York, Feb. 17. -- Tagged as express packages and labled "Handle with care," J. Elliot Whitbeck, aged 10, and his little brother Charles Henry, 8, had arrived in New York from Oakland, Cal., after seeing their mother buried in a California Grave. The children made the trip of 3404 miles unaccompanied, and come into care of the Wells-Fargo Express company.

The lads had $50, paid for everything as they went along, and had only $10 left when they reached New York.

They said the passangers treated them nicely and took much interest in them. Charley said: "Say, I could make that trip again, if papa would let me, but he says no."

They made the trip across the continent in four days, twenty hours and fifty-three minutes.
