Monday, June 1st
Video; returned “Aliens,” got “Dodsworth,” Walter Huston’s best acting job from back in the 30s. Back cured except for a few twinges. Walked two miles in 34 mins.Watched “Dodsworth” with much pleasure—part of it from seeing a good actor at work part too just us seeing a good movie.

Tuesday, June 2nd
Returned “Dodsworth” to Blockbuster Video. Charles Bell + his wife Danny, along with their dachshund Bauger, arrived around 4:30. Drinks here, after unloading car; then went to Peking for Chinese dinner. Enjoyed ourselves: as did Booker with his dachshund visitor.

Wednesday, June 3rd
Charles + Danny Bell left before 9 oclock. Iran-Contra hearings resumed on TV. Walked 2.5 in forty minutes; played side two of Civil War tape II. Again washed hair in kitchen sink; still avoiding soaking the scab on my back. Gwyn in post-martini snit. Read old Southern Review back in my room, while she read Foreign Affairs in hers. Just a good old solemn modern American marriage.

Thursday, June 4th
Post office; mailed a Tournament to Bob Loomis. Bank; cashed a travel-expenses check from Burns, made a $500 deposit for Gwyn. Home again; found a $2025 check from Rosen—also a Burns item, payment for Vicksburg battlefield excursion. Returned to bank to deposit it. Back home again. Called Safley for pathology report. Not here today; will call the tomorrow. Got fresh Dover sole filets at Seessel’s; cooked them for dinner, with boiled potatoes, fresh spinach, + a bottle of fuméblanc.

Friday, June 5th
Woke at 5; played Schumann’s Piano Trio 2—first two movements; then cut it off, went back to kitchen, perked coffee, ate cereal, then came on back + read Austen Warren’s fifty-page introduction to his Hawthorne volume. Watched Contra hearings; mostly Albert Hakim + the Iranian XXXX XXXX. Margaret came by; picked up $20.Lean Cuisine. TV. Bed by 11.Received a color photo of me leaning on a split rail fence at the Shiloh re-enactment on 5 april; from Gregg Gordon.
