Bee it knowne unto all men by these patents that I the Sunk Squa of Montaukut wife of Wiandanch of late years deceased, & all for I Wionkombone, Some of the foresaid deseased partie, Sachem of Long Illeand Together with [Foffatoun] Cheifs Counsellor & the rest of [the] trusty Counsellors & associates, Send greeting:
Know yee that whereas there was a full & firme Indenture made betwene Mr Thomas Barker Mr RobertBond Mr Thomas James Mr Lion Gardiner Mr John Mulford: John Hand Ben:[]xine: Together with their associated the Inhabitants of Easthampton uppon Long Islland the one partie, and I Sunk's Squa, & all for me wionkombone with the full Consent of my Counssellers & Servants as allso of my Two guardians left by my Deceased fatherviz Mr. Lion Gardiner of Easthampton and Mr David Gardiner of the Islle of wightthe otherpartie, my year of the lord one Thousand Six hundred [Seventie] uppon the sixt day of August: wherby we did ffully & firmlly sell unto the Said parties: our [] of land Called Montaukut . . from Sea to Sea from the utmost end of the neck Eastwand Called Wompenamit to our, utmost bounds westward caled napeafe with all privelges & appurtinances . . belonging to the same upon conditions there & then Specified in the fore[said] Indenture and a counterbond bearing the Same date signed & sealed to us By the fore[said] parties Inhabitants of Easthampton, by vertue of which counterbond wee hadd fre libertie granted: if wee see cause, to sitt downe againe upon the said land, This being the full purpose of us the Sunk's Squa & of Wionkombone Sachem Together with our associates in Convenient time to Sitt Downe to live at the Said Montaukut: Knowe yee allsoe that whereas of late yeeres there having beene Sore Disstres & calamit[ie] befalne us, by reson of the cruell opposition & violence of our most Deadly enemi Nimeecraft Sachem of Narrhigganset, whose Cruellty hath proceeded soe farr as to take away the lives of many of the deare friends & relations [soe the] [...........] forced to flee from the said Montaukut for Shelter to our beloved friends & neighbo[rs] of Easthampton, whom we found to bee friendly in our Disstres, And whom wee must ever owne & acknowledge as intruments under god for the preservation our lives & the lives of our wives, & Children to this day: & of the land of Montauket from the hands of our Enemies, And Since our comming amongst them the releiveng of us in our extrmities from time to time, And now at last wee find the said Inhabitants of Easthampton our deliverers Cordiall, & faithfull in their former convenents Leaving us freely to our owne libertie to goe or stay being readie to performe all Conditions of the love which wee have & doebare unto these our trustie Consideratiom of the love which wee have & doe bare unto these our trustie & beloved friends of Easthampton, upon our own free & voluntarie motion have given & graunted & by thes presents doe give & graunt & confirme unto these our friends the Inhabitants of Easthampton (Excepting Such as have ... Exempted themselves from the former aggrements, & shall from this our graunt, All that peice or neck of land belonging to montaukut land westward to a fresh pond in a beach on this side westward to that place where the ould Indian fort stoode on the other side Eastward to the new fort that is yet Standing: The name of the pond being Quaunontowanf, on the North and Lonfhonganik on the South, Together with all , Together with all privelledges and appurtenamces belonging to the foresaid land from South to North. To have & to hold the same as free Commonage to be ordered & disposed of for the benifit of the aforesaid Inhabitants of Easthampton themselves their heirs administrat[ors] execute[ors] and assignes for ever: To possess the same freely & quietlie without any matter of Challeng Clayme or demand of us the said Sunk Squa and Wionkombone Sachem or our associates or of any

other person or persons whatsoever, for us or in our name or for our Cause, meanes or procurement, And without any money or other things [insert] to bee yeilded paid or done onely for the said land to us or our heirs for ever, and Shall Justifie the the possession of this foresaid land by these said inhabitants of Easthampton, against any shall Question their proprietie in the Same, know yee allsoe that this is not only the Deede of mee the Suncf Squa & wionkombone Sachem, but alsoe the act and deede of all our associates & Subiects who have hadd . . formally any propriety in the foresaid land. They haveing many - [manifested] - fessted their Consent freely by a vote not one Contradicting the same, as alsoe with the Consent of Mr. Lion Gardiner & Mr David Gardiner whom the deseased father left as oversseers & Guardians of the foresaid wionkombone Sachem: Know yee alsoe that for the Securinge of the Easterne part Montaukut land which the Indians are to live upon: that the Inhabitantsof the foresaid Easthampton shall from time to time keepe up a ssuficient fence upon the North side of the foresaid pond, & the Indians are to secure the South side of the foresaid pond from all cattell dureing the tyme their corn is upon the ground: and then Easthampton Cattell Shall have libertie Eastward according to former agreements: and that the Indians of Montaukut Shall have libertie if they see cause to Sett their houses upon Montaukut land westward of the said pond, and to have firewood time to time on the foresaid land, know alsoe that what ever Cannoe or Deere Shall rome a Shore on the North Side of any part of Montauket land, Easthampton Inhabitants Shall not hinder the Sachem of them: And wheras the deseaced Sachem in his life freely gave to Mr Lion Gardiner, and Mr Thomas James . . what whales should att any time bee cast upon Montakut land as alsoe confirmed by mee Sunk Squa & wionkombone Sachem Since and the rest of our associates, which not being minded when former agreements was made: I Sunk Squa & alsoe I wionkombone Sachem together with our associates doe freely give to the said Lion Gardiner & Thomas James to bee Equally divided betweene them. The first whale Shall bee cast uppon Montakut land to them and their heirs or assigns for ever wee give the one halfe of all such whales as shall bee cast uppon Montaukut land & the other halfe to bee devided by the Inhaitants of Easthampton for ever know yee alsoe that as the said inhabitants of Easthampton Stand Ingaged to us for pay for that land Eastward of the forsaid pond Soe wee alsoe stand Engaged neither directly nor Indirectly to give let or Sell any part of that land without consent of Easthampton . . . Know yee alsoe that if at any time hereafter if Either through sicknes or or warr or any other means it Shall come to passe that the Indians belonging to Montakut bee taken away soe that it Shall not bee Safe for them to Continue there: that then those that Survive Shall have libertie to come to Easthampton for shelter and be there

provided of land and to have the former agreement fullfilled and to remane as firme & sure as though there never had been any Such act or deede as here is Specified: and that dureing the time of the Indians abode att Montakut they Shall be carefull of doeing any wrong to the English Either by their own persons or doggs or any other way whatsoever: In witnes of the premises wee doe here Sett to our hands: Dated at: Easthampton Feb 11 Anno Dom.: 1661

This agreement following agreed & Concluded Decem[ber] first Ann Dom .. one thousand six hundred and seventy And in the two and twentieth yeare of the soveraign LordCharles the Second King of great Brittaine france and Ireland Defender of the faith: Bee it known to all men by these presents that I Voniute Sachem ofMontakut Alias Mousup,Pehihouwan:Mauhsianan Smith: Mahtompait Obadiah & Ohekonnoo In the name & with the Consent of Pauquatoun . . Counsellor: Missaguat Askommaug wussouwan, Niuvgin & the rest of the associate[s] the true and lawfull Proprieties of a portion or parsell of land called Montaukut beyond a certain pond ralled the fort pond Eastward, Wherias Mr John Mulford, Mr, Thomas James Minister, & Jeremiah Conkling Inhabitants of Easthampton in New Yorksheire on the East Rideing were bound in a bond of a hundred pounds to the Commissioners of the Right Honourable frunns Louelan Governor in our behalfe, wee having bound over and mortgaged all our lands for their securitie inCase of the nonpayment of a certain sum of mony viz foure Hundred Bushells of Indian Corne:wee having forfeited our land to you forenamed Person att & upon the advice of the Worshippfulll William Wells of Southhould one of the aforesaid Commissioners that wee should come to a Speedy Composition with the aforesaid freinds, we aforementioned after searious Consideration & Debate have agreede & Concluded: And by theise presents doe deliver upp bargaine for & [Enfe] off a certain parsell of land to the foresaid John Mulford, Tho. James & Jeramiah Conkling as it is thus limitted & bounded by [..] the foresaid parties Wachebehsurk a plan by the fort pond being a valley Southward from the fort hill to the beach [Shahchippitchuge] being on the North Side the said land midwayBetwene the great pond & fort pond Soe on a streight line to [Chebiatinauhsuk] from there to a swampe where the Haystack stood called Mahshougitchuge and soe throughthe Swampe to the great pond then Straight from the haystacks to the great pond. Soe along by the great pond to a place called

Mamunkquiaug being on the farthest side that reedes growing on the South end of the great pond Eastward And soe along to the sea side southward to a place called Coppauhshapaugausuk soe straight from there to the South sea, Together with all the privelidges Emolluments appurtenan-ces or profits may any wise arise or issue fromthe said land thus bounded as aforesaid: And wee doe deliver upp all our Title of the same to the aforesaid persons their heires executors & assigns to have and to hould the same for ever, without any let or molestration Saveing the priveledges of the beach and whales cast upp thereon which is allready the proprietie ofThomas James and Jerimiah Conkling to their heirs & assigns for ever, Bee it knowne alsoe that wee the aforesaid John Mullford Tho: James & Jerimiah Conlling to be devided by them three & disposed of as they three shall agree. & shall from time to time & att all times Justifie them in the possession of the said land: And if ever heareafter, the forementioned John Mulford Thomas James Jerimiah Conkling or their sucessors shall see cause to [fence] in the said land, The indians are to fence in or beare the charge one halfe, and they the other halfe, In ratification & Confirmatoin of the promised wee set to our hands & seales. Memorandumthat the Indians are to have the finnes and tayles from time to time for ever onely of all the whales cast up at Montaukut or other great fish as - they have at Easthampton:

Decem: 10 1670, This above written agreement was owned and consented to by both parties in the presence of mr John Mullford Justice of the peace This above written Deedeof sale is a true Coppie [s]trated out of the originall & Compared by me: Thomas Tallmage Recorder feb 8 1670 Wee three John Mulford Thomas James Jerimiah Conkling doe assigne over & Deliver upp to the towne of Easthampton this former deede expressed: & all the Interest wee have in it: our interest in the whale only excepted as witnes out hands
