Dear Mr. Moran, I had so much to say to you about your book that I could not say it, when it came, and am still less able now. But it will be spoken of, I hope not in a way displeasing to you at my first Oxford lecture in your account of the new energies of modern art. - and meantime, in justice to yourself, please in some degree

attend to what I wrote of the necessity of giving up flare and splash. Force yourself to have leaves and stones - such as God means us all to be shaded by, and to walk on - and be buried under - till you see the daily beauty of these and make others see it.
