Proprietors Meeting Dec 6th.. 1858

The annual meeting of the Proprietors of Mon -tauk was held this day at the house of Thomas T Parsons according to previous legal notice at ten Oclock P M. — —

Hervey Hedges was appointed Chairman and David H Huntting and John C Hedges Secrataries

On motion the repirt of the Trustees was read and approved

The meeting then proceeded to the election of Trustees and appointed the secrataries as inspect -ors of the election polls to remain open till half past 12 P M.

The following named persons having received a majority of votes were declared by the inspectors to be duly elected Trustees of Montauk for the year ensueing To Wit John C Hedges Wilks Hedges William L Osborn Henry P Hedges Samuel B Gardiner Daniel H Sanford George L Baker

The following preamble and resolutions were presented and after debate were adopted by a majority of the interest voting thereon

Whereas the keeping of boarders at the house occupied by Mr Gould on Mon -tauk has so increased as at times to in-commode and interfere with the Proprietors and Owners of Stocks and whereas the

houses occupied by said keepers on said land of Montauk were not erected for any such purpose but were intended for the use and accomodation of us the Proprietors Therefore

Resolved that this meeting disapproved of the expending (other than for repairs) of any money on buildings or doing any thing whatever which may encourage strangers to visit said houses or land

Resolved further that in view with disapprobation the keeping of spirituous liquors for sale by any of the keepers on Montauk or encourage -ing its use in the houses occupied by them knowing the same to be illegal and improper and such of the keepers as are in the habit of selling the same are hereby requested to discontinue the sale thereof
