Sunday the 27th July A D 1834
Began with light airs from the Sth Ward.
Ship under all sail. Steering SSE by
the wind. At 2 PM the light house on
Montaulk [Montauk] bore W distance 3 miles from
which I shal [shall] take my departure
for the western islands. Middle part
wind and weather a bout the same. Saw
a number of fishing vessels. At 5 PM
passed two brigs and a large ship. Stteering
by the wind to the NW ward. At
mid knight [night] squared our yards and steered
Sth E. Set a fore top mast steering sail.
Latter part strong breezes. Saw a number
of vessels standing in diffferent directions.
1 At 10 oclok set at top gallant steering sail.
The day being the Sabbath no labour
done more than occasion required. So goes

Monday, the 28th
2 All these 24 hours fine fresh breezes
from the Sth W ward. Ship under
all possible sail. Steering Sth E.
Saw vessel steering to the N ward.
Latter part part people employed in getting
our boats in their watches. So goes

Tuesday the 29th
3 Began with strong westerly breezes
which continued throughout the day.
Ship under all sail. Steering E Sth E.
Saw nothing worth remarks.
Employed in getting the boats. So ends
