Wednesday the 30th April
Began with pleasant SE breezes.
at the meridian. Squared our yards
and steered off NNW. Set a fore
top mast steering sail. At 1 oclok [o'clock]
pm raised sperm whales. We [illegible]
immediately lored [lowered] our boats. Soon got
fast to two which we killed and
took a long [along] side. At sun set got
them hawsered. Furled our top sails
and lay by them through the
knight [night]. At day light in the
morning called all hands and turned
on to cutting. A 10 oclok [o'clock] finished.
Made sail wore ship and stoved
in for the land in hopes to
find whales but saw none.
At 11 oclok [o'clock] calm Brass Hill [Brass Hill, Nova Scotia?] bearing
ESE distance 4 miles. At noon a small
breeze. Squared our yards and
steered off N by E. Saw three
ships at anchor in the harbor.
So ends. The land is the latitude
and longitude. All goes well.
