Bark Franklin of [Sag] Harbor bound on a Whaleing voyag in the Atlantic Indian and pacific Oceans wereas I Mercator Cooper is Commander.

July 22nd 1847 Lat 40.10 Long 69.03 We took our anchor at 2 o'clock OM from Sag Harbor at 3 let go the anchor in gardners bay at half past 3 […] came on board and took our anchor and proced to sea with a fine breze from South West at half past & we passed Montok from which I took my [Departive] with a Crew all in good health at 6 [pm] the watch imployed in ships Duty saw several Ships steering on the wind to the Westward.

Friday the 23rd of July 1847 C North Lat 40.08 Long 65.50 These 24 hours commences with pleasant brezes from West South West the watch imployed in fiting the boats and coiling the lines and other jobs about the Ship severel sails in sight through the 24 hours.

Saturday the 24th of July Lat 40.18 Long 64.00 3 Days out These 24 hours Commences with pleasant breze from W S West Middle and Latter part light [baflin] winds and calms and some rain a brig in sight steering to the East.

Monday the 26th of July 1847 Lat 39.55 Long 60.20 These 24 hours commences with moderate brezes from the Westward and rainy through the night at 8am Clear and pleasant and a fine breze from South West the watch imployed in braking out the fore hatch and stowing it up snug.

Tuesday the 27th of July 1847 Lat 40.20 Long 57.05 These 24 hours commences with fresh brezes from South West middle part rainy and squally latter part Clear and pleasant the watch imployed in braking out the steerage hatch and Coopering the bread.

Wednesday the 28th of July 1847 Lat 40.52 Long 53.49 These 24 hours commences with moderate breze from South South West and then to South and to South East imployed in stowing up the steerage latter part pleasant.

Thursday the 29th of July 1847 Lat 41.53 Long 50.45 These 24 hours commences with light brezes from South East at 2PM we passed a Steam Ship steering to the Westward a brig in sight steering to the Eastward set English Colors at 6AM a Ship in sight steering on the wind to the Eastward the watch imployed in lashing up the spar spares.

Friday the 30th of July 1847 Lat 42.50 Long 49.30 [Drawing of whale with the word "sunk" in center] These 24 hours commences with light brezes from South East three sails in sight at 6 PM saw black fish and chased and fastened to one and sunk it at 10AM foggy the watch imployed in jobs about the rigging.

Saturday the 31st of July 1847 Lat 42.53 Long 48.50 These 24 hours commences with Calms and light winds from South East attended with fog the most of the time saw severel [gramposes] and porpoise and some black fish the watch imployed in ships Duty.

Thursday the 5th of August 1847 Lat 43.07 Long 40.03 These 24 hours commences with moderate brezes from South by East at 10PM fresh brezes at 2AM took in the fore topmast steering sail and the flying jib and main top[gallon] steering sail and [gaft] topsail 4 sails in sight.

Friday the 5th of August 1847 Lat 43.00 Long These 24 hours commences with moderate breze from South the watch imployed in work about the ship at 7AM the bottom of the barometer droped off and let out the Mercury and broke the tube at 10AM sent down the mizen topmast to over haul strong Northerly Current –

Saturday the 7th of August 1847 Lat 43.07 Long These 24 hours commences with light brezes from South latter part Calm.

Sunday the 8th of August 1847 Lat 43.07 Long [Drawing of two blackfish, one marked "4" and the other "8'"] These 24 hours Commences with light winds from South West and part of the time Calm at 11AM saw blackfish and got two of them.

Tuesday the 10th of Aug Lat 39.45 Long 32.02 These 24 hours Commences with fresh brezes from South West the watch imployed in Ships Duty severel sails in sight.

Wednesday the 11th of Aug Lat 38.45 Long These 24 hours Commences with fresh brezes from South West at 11PM passed [floras] at Mt Pico peak in sight.

Thursday the 12th of Aug 1847 These 24 hours Commendes with fresh brezes at 3PM sent up the mizen topmast at 7PM we hove a back off [payall] to Pay till morning at 2AM stood in for the harbor at 8 went on shoar the bark Superior Capt Roys here a recruiting the Ship Neptune of New Lonfon Capt Holt is a recruiting there is no potatoes to be got there was two steemers arived here to day one from the West indies the others from Lisbon.

Friday the 13th Aug 1847 These 24 hours Commences with moderate brezes the ship lying off and on at [payal] a geting off our vegatables we cant get any potatos the Ship Gen Scott of Fairhaven came to anchor and landed 40 [bls] of spermoil Fisher Master.

Saturday the 14th of Aug These 24 hours Commences with light winds from South at 11AM the wing hauled to the N East attended with heavy rain so we could not get off with the boat so we had to stay all night.

Sunday the 15th of Aug These 24 hours Commences with light winds and Calms and Continues through the 24 hours Pico bears East Dist. 12 miles.

Monday the 16th of Aug. These 24 hours Commences with light brezes and Calms through the 24 hours Pico bears North Dist 15 Miles.

Tuesday the 17th of Aug. These 24 hours Commences with light brezes from South East at 10 AM – went on shoar at the south East End of St George and traded some oil for potatoes and fowl.

Thursday the 19th of Aug 1847 These 24 hours Commences with light winds and Calms went on shoar at St George with oil and traded for potatoes and fowl.

Friday the 20th of Aug 1847 These 24 hours Commences with light brezes from S East steer for Tercara at 4 went on shoar while on shoar the boats chased sperm whale engaged my potaotes and came on board.

Saturday the 21st of Aug These 24 hours Commences with pleasant brezes from South East went on shoar and got our potatoes and Discharged Henry Babcock on account of being ruptured in 2 places and shiped a Portuges in his place the bark Pembrook of New London Capt. Porter 36 Days out 20 bls sperm got our Disbersments and steered on the wind to the S West.

Monday the 23rd of Aug 1847 These 24 hours commences with light brezes from S East tacked ship and steered on the wind to the Eastward.

Tuesday the 24th of Aug 1847 These 24 hours commences with light brezes from S East latter part St Miguls in sight

Wednesday the 25th of Aug [drawing of whale in margin] These 24 hours commences with pleasant brezes from S East at 9 AM saw Sperm whale and Chased them and Darted at them and gave them up in the afternoon. We came up with them again and fastened to one and killed it. St Miguls in sight bearing south dist. 20 miles.

Thursday the 26th of Aug 1848 Imployed in [Cuting] in the [whale]. A [Dirck] bark 150 Days from Vatava sent a boat on board to get some potatoes and onions flower and pumpks.

Sunday the 19th of Aug Lat 38.18 These 24 hours commences with moderate brezes from East at 8 AM Terceria St George and Pico in sight their bearings from North West to North East finished trying out the whale.

Monday the 30th of Aug Lat 38.5 These 24 hours Commences with fresh brezes from East South East imployed in Coopering and filling it up and branding it to send on shoar. Fayall in sight we saw several ships in shoar at Fayal a getting their recruits.
