TIDES:

The tides flow strongly in two directions through the Strait,
the great mouth of Hervey Bay acting in a measure like the Bay of Fundy,
narrowed to seven miles between Urangan and Moon Point, to give rises
of up to about eleven feet near the Moon Boom Islands, where they
meet the ,water forced through the ¾ mile wide entrance of Wide Bay
Harbour.

In 1904 the Mission people were transferred to Yarrabah, a
few malcontents going to Durundur and soon after to Barrambah, some
descendants still live at Urangan.

S.J. Oh, well, he had a lad ... There were some footballers came from Howard or Childers or something, and there was a storm one night. You should remember that. There was a heavy storm, and he got killed by a branch. Whether they pulled up along on the Howard road or not, and a branch of a tree came down and killed him. There was a bit in the Maryborough Chronicle about that, and the wrap up they gave him, he was a credit to his people. They were very nice people. Mrs. Peters was a half-caste and his father was a half-caste. They were very, very, decent people. Good looking people. And he is down at the Bay now. He would be all of six foot. They were unscrupulous, cruel and dominating.
When blacks were taken away, some escaped,
some jumped into water etc., but in 1913 a small
camp lived in Bogimbah from there some
followed us down to Woongoolbva. Others
finished up at Urangan.

There are some relics of the past for the observant such as the
old horse yards, the cricket pitch in the clearing for
the navigation lights, where many a memorable game
of cricket was played between teams from the
Forestry and Urangan, a few fire grids litter the site
near the old loco shed and the loading ramparts at the
mill site.
