Freedman's Hospital Washington D. C. Aug. 19th '65

Dear Father

I received this morning your letter stating that the cane and boy had both safely arrived. I was much pleased to learn of the safe arrival of the cane for it has relieved me of all anxiety for its safety, also the boy whom I am in hopes will meet your full expectations. I wrote you a line last night stating that I had sent the boy.

Business connected with this Hospl. now is pretty lively and keeps me moving but I am learning all the while if nothing else I Have had better health during the past year that I have had in three years back. The weather her is very pleasant. Love to all,

Your Son

Charles R. Douglass
