Jan 17th Reached Katheleen this am. Went at once to Dr. McMurray's office. Found him thoroughly familliar with the hookw disease, having treated between 50 + 100 cases in N.C. He had heard Stiles lecture, read his bulletin it and was very enthusiastic. In town & about the country he had ten or more cases used in treatment. Sitting on his table was a bottle of worms passed a few hours before by a patient. I put one of these under the microscope -- showed him the anatomy of the worm (several outsiders came in during the meanwhile-) then macerated [the worm] it (a female) and exhibited the eggs.

In aft. drove out to ? school inspected it found 28 suspects. In town in a house to house canvas as many more. There wont be a case left in this part of the country when the Dr. get his hand in. We were well received at every place visited.

Left at A 13 for Loughman at which place I spent the balance of the morning talking h w to all the people. After dinner Dr. C.W. Holloway and my self visted the school house 30 pupils with 2 teacher. 27 of these exhibit evidence of being infested. The teachers took down all the names. Then Dr. H. drove me about town visiting various families where he suspected the trouble. in this way I saw 10 or 12 more persons. Dr. H. stated that he would get the specimens send them to the laboratory and treat the patients when the report came back As the company's physician he has charge of all the medical work done in & for miles around Loughman. Send him 50 hook worm outfits as early as possible. I found that he already had several people under treatment and was enthusiastic and anxious to push the work among his people.
