1. To help for ye pox in ye Eyes. Take saffron, & lay it in a
sawser wth fair water, & let it stand till it be yellow, & then
drop some of it into ye Eye wth a feather, & it will destroy
ye pox & save ye sight.
1. An approved medicine for ye Pyles. Take 2 or 3 bricks
& burn them red hot, & put them in some pan under a
close stooll, & sprinkle them wth vinegar, & let ye
party grieved sit upon ye said stooll, yt ye fume thereof
may ascend upward to his fundament. Do this 3 or 4
times, if need be, & it will certainly help.
1. ffor them that have surfeited, or eaten too much. Let
them stamp Betony, & temper it wth hot water, & a
little Wine, then strain it well, & then drink a good
draught thereof [????] first & last 3 days together, &
it will thoroughly help them (God willing .
1. N:B. In ye []Winter time, a spoonfull of Aqua vitæ sweetened wth
good Sugar, wth a little peece of ye purest white bread put
into it, lest it should trouble ye brain, or do some harm to ye
Liver, is healthfully given to gross & flegmatick bodies,
yt it may concoct ye humrs, & defend their bodies from the
Lethargy, wch is a forgetfullnes & a lossing almost of ye
Senses, & from ye Apoplexy, wch is a ceasing as well
of ye inward senses, as of ye outward, as from old
diseases.
