northward at noon steered southeast by east
downe, thinking if that shoal had
been on the island Ceylon that
we should have made the land
butt proved so thick that could not
lee that land two leagues. Halled up
desiguing to make it upon an
east coast. In the morning steered
east, saw bark of trees past by the
ship with small pieces of reeds, likewise
the water very much discouloured,
not usual to the eastward of the
island. Find the ship 26' to the southward.

4 in the morning saw it, immediat-
ly halled off, and at day light
saw Point de Gal on the island
Zealoan bearing E. by S., & Adam's
Peak northeast by east distance off shore 2 leagues.
At first seeing land sounded 38
fathoms black sand with white specks.
At 8 lay by desiguing to waite
here till night for our consent.
Made Point de Galle to lye in
the latitude of 6° 4' N. & to the eastward
of the shoal we saw 120 miles.
