"Fort Worth, Texas. July 12th 1901.

"Messers,Murray,Ward & Tucker.

" Gentlemen. I would respectfully ask your Honorable Committee,to recomend the immediate purchase of 200 feet of Fire Hose.

As the January 1899 purchase of 2500 ft, is giving away every time it is put in service, and we cannot rely on it, we have had 7 lengths to burst since the 6th of May, and we have now only 500 ft to put on #4 wagon when it comes out of the shop.

"And now that we are threatened with a drouth, it will take every available foot of hose we have, as in most cases it will require 2 lines to be laid, and the one from the plug will have no pressure for about a minutes and we will have to depend on the lines laid from the Engines, and should we be compelled to use the cisterns it would require more hose, as we would have to lay in some cases at least 2000 feet of hose in one line.

"Gentlemen,

I would also reccomend the purchase of the Eureka Rubber lined Cotton Fire Hose, as the City has had some of their hose in service since 1893 and is in apparently good condition now And the oldest rubber hose in service is only 30 months old, for which the City holds a guarentee for 36 months.

"I have written the firm in regard to the burst sections and they have answered that they don't think the guarentee covers the hose we have had to burst. However, they wanted to patch it and ship it back to us, but I told them that I thought they should replace it with new hose, if we had wanted to patched we would have out it off and put couplings on and made short sections.

"This purchase is very necessary as there is only 3000 feet of good hose in service now in the Dep't, the balance is not reliable.

"Hoping your Honorable Com, will reccomend the above purchase at once."

I remain, Yours Respt,

J.H. Maddox Chf

We your Fire committee recommend that the above hose be purchased at once.
