during the progress of the work, or at any time of any monthly or other
estimate, shall not be construed to be an acceptance of any defective wok
work or materials.

For more full and perfect explanation of the form and dimen-
sions of the work herein specified, and of the manner of executing it
in all it s details, further plans and directions will be given by the
City Engineer, and they shall be complied with by the contractor. The
foregoing specifications, and the maps and plans exhibited, are intended
to describe and show the general mode of construction. If, in the opin-
ion of the Engineer, any change, or altercation not materially affect-
ing the character but affecting the amount of the work to be done, are
necessary, the contractor shall carry out the work so ordered.

The meaning or intent of these specifications, where any
obscurity may occur, will be explained and defined by the City Engineer,
who will also give such directions as are necessary to give full effect
to any of the provisions of these specifications.

The specifications are attached to, and made a part of, the
contract for performing the work herein described.

D E T A I L S .

EXCAVATION--Shall be included in the price bidd on per
square yard. The roadway shall be excavated to the necessary depth below
the established grade of the finished roadway, to provide for the thick-
ness of pavement, and thoroighly rolled with a heavy steam roller, until
the surface of the sub-grade is solid, and approximately parallel to the
proposed surface of the contemplated pavement. Soft and springy places
not affording a firm foundation shall be dug out, and refilled with
good sound earth, cinders, gravel, concrete, slag or stone, as the City
may direct, such extra excavation to be paid for at actual reasonable
cost of labor and materials, plus 15 per cent.

PAYMENT--Upon this prepaired sub-formation shall be
evenly spread a four (4) inch layer of first-class Jacksboro lime-
stone and thoroughly rolled with a steam roller. This stone must be so
crushed and screned that each stone will approximate 2 1/2 inches in
greatest dimension.

The stone shall be hard and free from clay or other dirt
