It gives me great pleasure to acknowledge your recent letter addressed to me at Vinton. I was very glad to hear from you again for it's a long cry from September 1898 to December 1916, but I well recall the days we spent together in the hospital in JAcksonville.

I will look up my old army records in a few days and will give you all the information I have very soon.
