owe so many letters & postcards, but have neglected so long & must get busy soon. Give my love to the Siebles when you write. I owe Alena a card too. Now, I wonder if I have said everything. I think this a pretty long speech for a sick girl, don't you? I am wound up and just have to say so much. Next Sun. is Mothers Day & we wear white flowers. Have a preacher from, [underlined: Texas], for a.m. & evening. S'pose he wears horns? Presiding Elder will be here last Sun. in May & we will entertain him, I guess. He is nice and I do not mind. Do hope my sweetheart is all straight by this time. She has his share. How I'd like to see little "Ga" & Helen & Alice & all the family. Come out when you can. Your house must look dandy. Have paint for ours but do not know when we will get it put on. Mr. S. has so little time & I've taken a back seat . Well, hope you'll survive this. I am on porch & it is windy. Lots of love to all & kisses for babies. As ever, "Ga"

calf. Sure you have the first right to buy. I do not know if U.S. would want any more stock now, or not, as I have not asked him so, as you have a good place to keep it, it's all right. We will have a new cow in about two weeks & I'll be so glad. Get fine ranch butter from Weddingtons. All our neighbors & everyone who makes good butter has it all engaged at Hollywood, you know. Get milk from, [Strings ?], on, [Starr ?], Place. Now as to the Woman's League, it is out of the question for me to take any more upon myself now or in near future and we are too much in debt now to think of sparing any cash and so I shall not try to become a member. Would do it to help you move & have anything else if I did at all? Will be glad to subscribe or renew for magazines thru you whenever we do. My present sub. expires in Nov. & I'll send thru you if I renew and I'll want to take something I guess. I have not written home or to anyone in the East for more than two months. Guess they will be howling [?]

very happy old folks. I forgot to say in my last, (letter), that we enjoyed the ham that Grandyvs made. Helen had been away all p.m. and was away when I came home at dark & nothing ready for supper so I had ham & eggs &French fried potatoes, (fried, eh?), and Fred & his papa enjoyed it so much. In fact, they enjoy everything I cook. I guess I am spoiling them too but, I like to do it. Helen & I went to return some calls one p.m. &, while we were dressed up, drove down to call on Mrs. Holloway. They have made a big change there and it's ok. The Grandy Place is looking good too & everything neat as a pin but I was sorry to see the windows changed. They seemed to be using the bedroom for a sitting room. Would have liked a nearer view but, did not care to stop. They have a walk from steps of front porch out nearly to street, winds around and comes out between pepper tree & letter box. We called on Mrs. Miller & Mrs. Peters that day also. Have returned 3 other calls, Mrs. Earle's, Mrs. W. Fullerton's & Mrs. Black's. Glad to hear you have a little girl.

Want to get everything made before fruit comes so I can take things easier. Can, [underlined: he bake], pads later on, you know. Cut out two little flannel shirts today. Have four outing nighties or wrappers nearly finished. No new dresses made yet, but will make them very plain and will not take long. I also made two cheesecloth comforters tied with blue. Made net curtains for our living rooms & side drapes & swiss curtains, valance for bed for my room and a doz. pillow cases since was at your place. Helen has some waists to make but, I am going to show her how to cut & make them so she can do her own plain sewing. She is anxious to learn to do it. She washed & ironed this week. I wanted her to wait till I could help but, she wanted to do it so I did not object. Fred is such a dear, thoughtful, helpful boy and a great comfort to us. He is so good to me and I know you will just laugh at me but, I am going to say it just the same. Yes, U.S. is dearer and dearer every day. He is so good & kind to me and so thoughtful & sympathetic. We are to

Lankershim, Cal. May 4, 1910

My dear Dedie:

More than two weeks ago, I, (thot?), I'd begin a budget to you & write a little, (evry), day and I am just now making the, [start, shirt ?]. Have been working like a "house-afire" and surprising myself & us because I could accomplish so much but, last week, I reached the limit. On Friday, began to fag. Not so good Sat. and rested part of day Sunday, still used up. Monday, no good. So, my dear boy, sent Dr. Thompson to see me. Left tonic heart stimulant etc. & we had a good talk. Got the ice well broken, etc. Told me to lie down for a few days & keep quiet. Couldn't have done, otherwise, had I tried. Yesterday, was a wretchedly weak time. Some better today, but a little more rest will fix me o.k. again. But Mr. S. says I am to take better care of myself from this on and I do intend to. I cannot afford to run any risks. There has been so much to do, extra work in fixing up town etc. bu, it can wait a few months or another year. So anxious to get a lot of flowers out but, it is late now so they too will wait.
