Newburgh, Ohio Dec. 25, 1892

My dear daughter:

This is Sabbath afternoon and we have just finished eating our Christmas dinner which was very plain, but, I think, relished. Their was but four of us, but we wished for you and there was some too for you and enough to eat. The oranges you sent furnished one dish for our table and we hope, by another Christmas, you can be with us. Your express package arrived this morning. I got Archie up at 7 1/2 o'clock to go after it and, oh, such a lot of beautiful and useful presents. We never reserved before. I thought your presents of last year the nicest I ever received, but this year excels. I fear you have not only robbed yourself by sending them, but overtaxed yourself as well. We are all pleased with the presents and everything just suits. Archie says he would like to write you a letter but will not have time and he wishes he could have sent you a present, but says he will have to buy coal instead to keep us warm. The weather

is extremely cold and has been for some days and we have snow every day since last Wednesday, and today, it snows and blows and we have sleighing. Archie still has his old runs but, this week, he is earlier out and will get in earlier. Katie, yesterday, mailed you a package thinking it would be cheaper than to express it. It was addressed to your new home. It contained the sacque, a handkerchief and some fancy work. Emma G. wrote to me to meet them at the Forest City Hotel at 8 o'clock and I did not receive it in time to meet them and so they came to visit us. She looks very much as she used to, only fleshier and more matured. Her husband has poor health. They have sold their present home & are now looking for another location. They were delegates to a convention in C. I may enclose her last letter to you to read. The package arrived in a pretty good condition. It looked a little dilapedated, but the contents were all right. Katie's school has been dismissd until Tuesday. I gave her a pair of long sleeved vests for a present and Archie, I gave two handkerchiefs. Katie received her scholarship certificate in a frame and I hung it up by the book case. We are all well, as usual, again. Archie got hurt a few nights ago and had to quit work and come home. He was struck in the face & on his lip while putting up the trolly. He wears, [court ?], plasters over his wounds yet. I was prostrate for several days having taken cold going to the express office after your package.
