Muskingum River; Fort Harmer; Ohio River; No. 1 No. 2 No. 3 No. 4 No. 5 No. 6 No. 7; Trees of immence size grow on every part of these works & tradition itself fails in pointing out the time when they were constructed.; It is supposed that the Muskingum's Eastern bank once was where the low land now lies & the apertures No. 6 & No. 7 communicated with the River.; Military gentlemen who have seen these uncommon fortifications say that no modern Engineers would have chosen situations more proper for defence than these when artillery is excepted.; References; No. 1 The Town; No. 2 The Fort; No. 3 A circular parapet & ditch surrounding a pyramid of earth 50 feet high & 150 in diameter at the base. The parapet 240 yards in circumference; No. 4 An advanced work; No. 5 Graves; No. 6 A covered way the wall 33 feet high at the middle; Towers; Caves.
