Joseph Dudley {Esquire}: & Captain General & {Governor} in Chief in and over her {Majestys} Province of the Massachusetts Bay in New England in America. To all unto whome these presents shall come Greeting. Know yee That with the advice and consent of Her {Majestys} Council, and the Assembly of the said Province, I have constituted and appointed, and by these presents, Do constitute and appoint Penn Townsend {Esquire} & John Leverett {Esquire} Commissioners for and on behalfe of this Province to appear and represent the same in a Treaty and Negotiation at Albany, (by themselves and such commissioners as shall there appear, on behalfe of any other of Her {Majestys} Colonys or Provinces) with the Sachems and principal men of the Maquas and other Nations of the Western Indians, for the receiving, ratifying and confirming the Ancient Friendship and Correspondence, hitherto kept inviolate, betwixt Her {Majestys} Several Governments on this Continent and the said Five Nations. In which Negotiation aforesaid, the said Commissioners are to Observe and follow the Instructions herewith given them

Given under my hand and the Common Seal of the said Province of the Massachusetts Bay, at Boston the Seventh day of September 1704. In the Third year of Her {Majestys} Reign.
