"and dreadfull tempests of thunder and lightning in
"May June July and August"

From this account of the weather in South Carolina
is to be drawn several important conclusions -
That the Maritime parts of the Country is one of the
most unhealthy climates in the world cannot be
doubted for the immoderate heat exhales such a
putrid effluvia from the Marshes & Swamps as
almost poisons the Air. But at the same time
that this Character is perfectly just to the marshy
sea Coasts it holds no further this flat marshy
country reaches from 80 to 100 miles from the Sea
Coast Then the soil begins to rise into little hills
and beautiful inequalities which continue increasing
in height and variation till you reach the Apalachian

Mountains
