Dear Dr. Van Waters,
Here it is the 16th the date on which I promised to
write. I hope the letter finds you hole and hearty. I had
hopef for one from you before this time, but I know how
busy you usually are at this time of year. I do like to be
assured that you are well and behaving yourself. While
the subject is behavior let me add that the good record
of mine is no more. The warden was walking down
the line annoyed in all his glory. When meeting him the
well behaved subject comes to a respectful stop. I was think-
of other things at the time and didn't stop. The following
morning, I had to stand erect for five hours as punishment.
Let me recommend it as being good for the legs. I don't
think such a small violation of rules will harm me.

I have expected Miss Binford to visit me for the
past two weeks, but she didn't come. I want her to do
me a favor if she will. I want a different job. Too much
of anything is sufficient. We discussed that when you were here.
I am reaching the stage where I cannot concentrate on my lessons.
A chance will do me good. A person gets in a rut in the sepulchers.
Of the two of us, I believe, Mr. Sayles recieved more of God's mercy.

What prompted you to name the cat after Emperor Jones?
I have read the play, and other than both being black I could see
no connection. I also read "The Straw" and "Ransom"

Do not mail currency- Money Orders and Checks accepted.
Foodstuffs and Packages are not accepted at any time.

Visits every two weeks by relatives only.
