The following abbreviations have been used throughout:

O.T. For Occupational Therapy. Ad. for Administration

It is helpful to note that the Ad. Building in the centre of the map, is actually, the yellow buidling in the centre of the ground, dividing the East Side from the West Side. Tunnnels connect most of the buldings, but at not indicated on the map.

Amusement Hall Service Vuilding - 1st floor

Moves are shown one evening a week from the last week in October to the last week in April. Employees are requested to wait until patients have been seated. Television of important events will be announced from time to time. Dances and card parties are held here for employees two or three times a year.

Beauty Salon Women's OT - Basement Open: 9:00 A.M. Monday through Friday. Closing time is 5:00 P.M. but Salon will stay open later by special appointment, or when necessary. Employees are entitled to reduced rates.

Business Office Ad. Building - 1st floor

Open: Monday through Saturday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Bills are playable in the front office. Meal tickets are sold in the mail office. Telegrams and special delivery letters or packages are held at the switchboard. Notification will be immediate

Cafeteria Service Building - Basement

Open: 6:30 - 7:45 11:30 - 12:45 4:30 - 5:45

Service Building - Basement Breakfast Dinner Supper

This cafeteria is for employees who have not been assigned elsewhere.

Chapel See Map

Non-sectarian services. Sunday, 2:00 P.M. October through June. The Samuel Eliot Chapel was built in 1906. The beautiful stained glass window was dedicated in 1948

Coffee shop Women's OT - Basement

The house are posted on the Bulletin Boards throughout the hospital. The Coffee Shop is open to all who live at the hospital - patients, professional staff and employees. Guests are invited only if accompanied by a member of the hospital. Sodas, sundaes, sandwhiches, and other snacks are served at reasonable rates.

Clinic Ad Building - Basement

Open: Monday through Friday: 8:30 A.M. to 9:00 A.M. If medical care is needed, employees may visit Clinic during hours. Medication or hospitalization will be arranged for here, if required. In cases of emergency, your department head will notfiy a doctor. If you are on duty curing Clinic hours, be sure to ask permission from your supervisor before leaving your work. The out-patient departments of the Massachusetts General Hospital are avaialable to our employees when needed.

Dental Clinic Service Building - First floor rear

The hospital dentist will usually be here on Thursday mornings. Employees may make arrangements for dental care with the nurse in charge at this time.

Housekeeper's Office Service Building - Basement

Open: 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. daily. The hospital Housekeeper or her assistant is on duty except for the noon hour. Mail and checks for the members of the Housekeeping Department are distibuted here.

Kitchen Service Building - Basement

Only kitchen employees allowed in kitchen.

Laboratories

Open: 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Monday through Friday 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon, Saturdays. Scientific Research Laboratory: See map This Laboratory is wholly for scientific research. Clinical Laboratory: Service Building - First Floor This is also called the Otto Folin Room and is still a Research, as well as a Clinical laboratory.

Laundry Service Building - Basement Rear

All uniforms are laundered free of charge. Rules regarding number of uniforms allowed and other graments may be found in Laundry Book. There is a coin operated automatic Laundromat in the Basement of the Ad Building for personal laundry.

Library Ad. Building - First Floor

Open: Tuesday 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. for employees. Employees are welcome in the Library at this time and may borrow books according to the Library rules.

Nursing Department Offices

Open: At all the times. East Wing Office: Women's Belknap - First Floor Ward Helpers report here for assignments, mail and checks.

West Wing Office: Men's Belknap - First Floor Attendants report here for assignemtn, mail and checks.

Personnel Office Service Building - First Floor

Open: Mondays through Fridays, 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Alternate Saturdays, 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon. Empoyees are always welcome here. If you have any problems, which your supervisor cannot solves, the Personnel Office will try to help you. This office is also glad to receive suggestions.

Pharmacy Service Building - First Floor

Open: Mondays through Fridays, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Saturdays, 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon. All medicines must be prescribed by Clinic doctor. Charges, if any, are at cost.

Physical Therapy Women's OT - Basement Men's Gym - Basement

Physical Therapy is given employees when prescribed by Clinic doctor. Appointments are made by Clinic nurse.

Sewing Room Service Building - Second Floor

Open: Mondays through Fridays, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Saturdays, 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon. Uniforms are obtained here. Soiled uniforms must be returned before clean ones are issued.

Smoking Rooms Men: Basement - Service Building. Women: Basement - Ad Building.

Smoking is permitted in these rooms.

Steward's Offices Head Steward: Ad Building - First Floor Assistant Steward: Service Building Basement.

Open daily, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Mail and checks for members of the Dietary Department and laundry distibuted here.

Store Room Service Building - Basement

Express packages are sent and received here.

Telephone Booths (continued)

All outgoing calls are to be made on these telephones. Incoming calls, except emergencies, are to be made to these numbers, only when employee is off duty. EMERGENCY CALLS may be made to belmont 5-0700.

X-Ray Men's Gym, Basement

X-Rays for employees are taken on order of the Clinic doctor. The charge is only the cost of the plate or plates.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Accidents

The hospital will follow the regulations of the Workmen's Compensation Act in case of accident or injury received in line of duty. Any such accidents, no matter how minor, should be reported at once to your department head.

Change of Address

Please report to Personel Office any change of address, name, status, or telephone number; also any change in name or address of nearest relative.

Entrances

The side entrances to the Service Building, at the left of the Administration Building are for Employees. The entrance which leads to the basement is the only one to which employees are admitted after 10:00 P.M., with the exception of those who live in the Nurses Home.

Health Program

1. Physical examination on entrance, including chest plate and serology. 2. Annuel physical examination for all full time permanent employees. 3. Opportunity to join the Blue Cross and Blue Shield group insurance plans. (Apply at Personnel Office). 4. Sick leave granted on Clinic approval according to department regulation and individual needs.

5. During illness: a. Employees may seek medical attention at Clinic in regular hours. b. Employees may receive certsin medicines without charge. c. Employees may remain in hospital under doctors care for two weeks. This time may be extended upon consideration of the hospital administration.

Holidays

The hospital observes the following holidays: New Year's Day Washington's Birthday Patriots Day Memorial Day Fourth of July Labor Day Columbus Day Armistice Day Thanksgiving Day Christmas Day

The hospital cannot close holidays, so some employees must work on each holiday. In such cases, the employee will be given another day off in place of the holiday. Payment for holidays worked instead of time off will be made only in case of emergency.

Keys

It is important to keep keys always in your possession. Lost keys must be reported at once to your de-

partment head. Keys must be returned when employee leaves, before receipt of last check, or a charge will be made for the cost of the keys.

Leave of Absence

Leave of absence for sufficient cause may be obtained from the Director.

Lost and Found

Please report any articles either lost or found to your department head.

Mail

Incoming mail is distibuted twice a day by the Business Office to department head offices, where it may be claimed. Outgoing mail is collected at time marked on collection boxes, which are located: a. In corridor between Service Building and Administration Building. b. Outside East Wing Office c. Outside West Wing Offices.

Promotions and Transfers

It is the policy of the hospital to promote its own employees ahead of outside applicants to positions for which they are qualified. If an employee desires to advance by means of a transfer from one department heads. A consultation with the Personnel Department is advised.

FIRE REGULATIONS

GENERAL ALARM--1 long and 4 short blasts repeated 4 times.

Upon discovery of a fire in any one of the hospital buildings TELEPHONE OPERATOR giving location of fire. the operator will alert the Belmont Fire Department and all responsible persons.

WARD HELPERS AND ATTENDANTS 1. If fire is on your ward, take orders from charge nurse. 2. If not on duty, report at once to your supervisor's office.

GARAGEMEN 1. Meet the Belmont Fire Department at the Mill Stereet Entrance and direct to fire. 2. Remain in the garage and have all hospital cars in readiness.

OTHER MALE HELP Kitchen, laundry and maintenance men. 1. Report at once to Electrician's Office 2. Take orders from the hospital fire chief, the Master Mechanic or one of his assistants.
