But the logic is inevitable - and if the experiment of popular government does not fail altogether, upon this continent it will gradually reach that development among many others— Liberty only can cure the shortcomings of liberty - A Nation goes backward, if it is not going forward. A boy in a boat at sea, might as well hope to re main idly unaffected by the currents & the winds as a notion to escape the flux & reflux of the tides of eternal principles
