7-6-42 "Ned" had day off at Roosevelt, "Ned" and friend [blank] Parrish (home Durham, N.C.) visited La Guardia [blank] Field. They visited Parrish's brother william who [blank] was a Pilot for American Airlines, william [blank] Parrish gave them the royal tour. Pilots [blank] ratings posted - William Parrish topped the [blank] first ten listed. " " " " took them [blank] to lunch. "Ned" had a wonderful time.

7-27-42 "Ned" completed course in Hydraulics. This [blank] second hardest part of course. Ned scored [blank] 89 - second highest in group. Instrument score 78 [blank] next course in propellers.

7-28-42 Notified in August Roosevelt Field [blank] to be their regular Army Base.

9-9-42 "Ned" has completed school in Carburation [blank] and " " " " electricity

10-4-42 "Ned" received first weekend pass returned [blank] to Roosevelt Field at 2:25AM Tuesday Morning

10-9-42 "Ned" located trouble with engine while [blank] installing Oil lines - the pipe elbow [blank] incorrectly places. "Ned" was given much [blank] praise by local instructor (this was [blank] a Dayton Factory error) "Ned" felt he would [blank] not be given credit for detecting the fault.

10-11-42 "Ned" became friends with a Mr. Knott, [blank] who owned a drug store in Mineola. Mr [blank] Knott suggested Vitamine A for Color [blank] Blindness. Stated over 2 cases tried [blank] were cured.

10-21-42 "Ned" & group left Roosevelt Field, N.Y. [blank] around mid-night. Transferred to Curtiss [blank] wright Service School Barracks #9 [blank] Class 10, Hdgts - Detachment, Willimsville [blank] Branch Route 4, Buffalo, N.Y. [blank] New School - First Class there to [blank] specialize on Curtiss - P-40. [blank] will spend 27 school days in this school [blank] "Ned" received a Diploma from Roosevelt Field
