16 teaching. I had men of all ranks - private to colonel- in this class. I had a wonoderful time doing this until I was sent on Detached Service with the Eighth Air Force in Paris, France in connection with their Air Show. It was a great honor and I enjoyed every minute of it. Thousands came to the show, which was set up under the Eiffel Tower in Paris. While in Paris, the report of the Japanese surrender came in. Although I was asked to go to Stockholm, Sweden with the Air Show, I requested that I be allowed to return to Raydon. My request was approved so I returned to Raydon. I had ample points to be released from service. Some few of our men had been separated from service after the surrender by Japan. 39 352nd Transfer Jimmy Parrish also from North Carliona and were sent to Stone Separation Center. 40 Trip to POE At Stone we turned in and received proper clothing and completed documents for a trip home. After three days at Stone, Parrish and I, along with others, were sent by train to Southwest England to a port where we boarded the "Europa for our trip to New York.

17 44 Sea Trip to N.W. The Europa, which we boarded on Sept, 21 1945, had been captured from the Germans. We had approximately 5,000 passengers. The trip by sea was uneventful 42 Arrival in U.S. It was great to see the "Lady" and the skyline of New York. We were greeted by fire boats and other ships blowing horns and spraying water. The Europa, A Prize of War, later burned at dock in New York. As we departed from the ship, we were met by the Red Cross, who gave us goodies, and fresh milk, which was so good. I normally do not like milk. Just glad to be back on American soil and almost home. 43 Trip to Separation Center From the New York Dock we were placed on train cars for the different destinations Parrish and I found our car was scheduled for Ft. Bragg, N.C. Our car was cut and hooked at least two times and by the next morning we were at Ft. Bragg. 44 Separation Center The Ft. Bragg Separation Center processed our documents in a very efficient and prompt manner. We had no duties at Ft. Bragg. In about there days the paper work was

18 completed. I was given my discharge papers on October 1, 1945 45 Trip Home I came home from Ft. Bragg by bus, arriving at my home a little after dark on October 1, 1945 46 Arrival Home I came home to wonderful parents and to the best home cooking since being away from home. The farm grown fresh black-eyed peas were so good! It was wonderful to be home with family!
