Dear Eva;

I received your letter today, was certainly glad to get it. I have written other letters besides the one your letter speaks of, you had the correct address on it, I received all my packages O.K. some were a bit late but I guess that was due to the xmas rush. I didn't receive anything from the mill, I sent them a xmas card, I hope they got it, it was the least I could do to show them my appreciation for the money they gave me. I am glad you liked the presents I sent they were about the only decent things I could find. I knew Harry would like the lighter with the marine emblem being an ex. Leatherneck himself. The present the Neelys sent was awful nice, I couldn't imagine who would be sending me a present from New York. It was a nice weekend kit, Beaulah sent me a box of hankechiefs and a pencil, and Faison sent me a carton of cigarettes and a waterproof ditty bag. I had nice xmas, got a lot of xmas cards from people I didn't expect. I got one from Gupton that runs the cafe by the mill and Harris that runs the beauty parlor near the house.

I haven't got it bad here considering everything. I am mostly on my own, never bothered by officers. We are more like officers than enlisted men.

We have complete charge of anywhere from sixty to a hundred men, they have to address us sir just as if we were officers. They make up our bunks, sweep our tent, and wash our clothes and stuff like that. Right now we got three of them in our tent one of them playing the guitar and others singing. Tyrone Powers is coming through training here, he is just like any other recruit.

Well the noise getting a little to loud in here so I guess I will close, say hello! to everyone for me especially my favorite Neice. Write often.

Love Jewell
