Dear Eva:

Sorry I haven't written sooner but I have been pretty busy lately. I am glad to hear everything is alright with you. The last two weeks I have been over at the naval hospital, I was pretty sick for awhile but I am alright now and back on duty. While I was at the hospital I saw a marine I came through training with at Parris Island. he told me that seventy five percent of the boys I came through training with were killed in action in the solomons, he himself was hit several places with shrapnel. It makes me feel pretty bad.

I am sorry to hear that Henry is being sent oversea, but I know how he feels so I can't blame him. I have asked several times to be sent back across but they won't transfer

me. I guess I will have to stay over here for awhile. I will be gald when this is all over and I can settle down back in good old North Carolina.

How is my favorite niece getting along? I'll bet she is plenty cute. I would like to get a leave so I could go back there for awhile, but I guess that is out of the question for awhile. We are getting a lot of men in the marines now. They are all draftees first time the marines has ever drafted men. Well Eva I guess that is about all the time I have to write now so I will close. Write soon.

Love Jewell

PS. Say hello to Velma and Snooky for me and tell them I will write when I get time.
