Letter from Lydia D. Kempson to "My Dear Sister", May 10, 1887

Chicago May 10th 87

My Dear Sister

Not many days ago I called at George's place of business felt a yearning to hear from you and those in your household - and to my surprise and pleasure found that Hughes was in the same business house.

Both brothers looked com -fortable and prosperous and as it it were well with them.

Mary Wilmarth was here on Thursday last. She is looking better than for many years. Does not have that care worn look she has carried so long - somehow - it has chanc -ed that she has been here frequently during the past few months. Some literary per -formances in our parlors have proved an attrac -tion there too Carrie and Mary have a good deal in common in the way of study.

You may already know that our sister Morse return -ed home with Isiah some weeks ago. She has had a severe cold but was re -covering at last account.

[John?] Norton's family have gone to the Vineyard for the summer. So too have Mrs. Wade and daughter Mrs. Cook the latter to stop but a time however.

When I called upon Geo. I took occasion to speak of the novel method he took in naming his youngest but he told me the ba -by was still without a name. Mr. Gould's baby about the same age of Geo's little one is still without a name. you may remember Nan -cy Phipps of Rochester sister Mary Smith's sister she died the last of April - leaving Garrison alone in the old homestead. He never mar -ried and must be

very lonely.

Hattie was here last week did not bring either of the babies - came to select par -lor carpets and stoped but two nights. The oldest boy now nearly four years is going to Kinder Garten. It is my in -tention to go to Milwaukee for a visit in two or three weeks.

Our Vineyard friends are all in usual health when last heard from - the same is true of our Chicago friends. Geo. tells me that Charlie's wife is not strong since the birth of her baby, but I hope the warm weather will prove ben -eficial to her.
