and rose next morning at 4 1/2. I was
so fortunate as to have company all the
way home. The rain was pouring when
the train stopped, but Dr. Sapp happened
to be there with two umbrellas, and accom-
modated me. Grandma seemed overjoy-
ed to see me; poor woman! she has
worried about the sale more than a little.
I had a happy time opening the pack-
ages from the Christmas tree, it went very
far toward neutralizing the shadow of loneli-
ness which had begun already to creep over
me. Many, many thanks for the beautiful
cuff buttons. Miss Jennie came down
just before night, she does not look very
well, but seemed cheerful. Just as we
were sitting down to supper who should
appear to us but Charlie, oh I was so
