Thursday eve

April 5 45

Dear Eva

Just a few lines to let you know we arrived home all safe abt 7.30 the trip back was lots cooler than it was going I am awful tired and sore today you know I am wild about flowers and I saw so many prity flowers in the woods, especially the old mans beard, and I all ways wanted one, so I keep talking about them but I would not ask Julia to stop she was going so licket t.split so [illegible] she knew I wanted her to stop so she did but there was a high red hill I said I cant climb that hill so there was a wide board across so I started of that board my feet sliped and I sit down so hard on my fanny that I cant hardly sit down today I [finly?] got me a little bush dont know weather it will live or not, but I didnt stop for any more flowers. Julia didnt know I got hurt I never told her but I am blue, and my dress will have to go to the cleaners to get that red dirt off.

My chickens was all right when I got home but thye had the house perfumed [up?] so I moved them out of doors today it is not so hot today as it has been. hope we wont get any of that [cold?] wave that is out west and headed this way I would hate to see my garden get killed now. Well I hope you and [Velma?] are feeling better now. and you have lots to be thankful for as father said Jewel was not a bad boy, and lets hope he is happier today than he ever was I feel sure that he and his mother has met in a

brighter world I have all ways said I wish I was as good as your mother she all ways looked on the bright side and could have a good time where ever she went I am sorry I didn't get to go to her grave but mabe some time I can go when the meeting won't be as it had to be this time and you all take care of your selfs and come down to see me this summer I will let you know when the [garden?] are in full swing, the paper talks like today we won't have much to eat later on especialy meat [?] lard, lard and rice. Just so I get enough meat to cook with that will do me but I do want enough [?], I will have to put a bug in JP ear. Well I don't know nothing else to write when you hear from the war department let me hear about it.
