Office, Aug. 4, 1892 1 P. M.

Mine Mother, I'll write a line to go with Vine's voluminous letter which you will find inclosed. She handed it to me this morning with strict instructions to send it to you to day.

About the trip up the lake. Both of us, by all means advise you to stop at Mackinac Island and not go on to the Soo. We wish we were to be with you but it can't be this year. I don't expect any vacation at all this Summer. I am more than busy and have no time at all.

We took the children up the river Sunday and had a perfect day. Dods was afraid of the bell

and the whistle and says she doesn't want to go again. We took a big basket full of provender but the chicks picked up the last crumb before we got back. When we told the children that after the lunch was all gone we were going to throw the basket overboard there was a scramble for the privilege of throwing it. Dodo held the basket in her lap for over an hour so as to have it in her possession when the last mussel was all gone. She held it with both hands and arms and guarded it as carefully as a watch dog would. Of course she threw it overboard and was satisfied.

We went up the [illegible] river about thirteen miles and thought how nice it would be to go clear up to Peoria if you were at the other end

Johnson comes to supper with us to night. Minnie is fairly well and the children perfectly so. I feel tired at night.

The tug Company has more orders than they can fill just at present. Hope it will continue that way with them.

Mrs Bary reached home feeling pretty well: stood the trip first rate. Mayor Noonan back down and reappointed Holman & Lindsay. Nothing new in the ciy hall.

We are very anxious to hear your report of aunt Cordelia. Give her our warmest love and also to all the others. It is hot again hear. I keep a pitcher of lemonade in the office as we have plenty of ice and it is but little work to brew it.

I don't go in the field at all these days and am glad I don't have to.

With much love to all B.
