C/o Jim O'Brien 69 Lw Leeson St [..] 8.5.16 Prof. P.F. Purcell, [MAI.] Killiney

Dear Professor,

I don't know if you heard I was shot by some sniper on Sat week last, but in any case I am in an unfortunate position. I [understand?] I am under suspicion & to be arrested [as?] [guilty?] [up?] because, my chemical works are beside the Volunteers [.uart...] at [Lar.pe..]l & the [Ralhoul..] suspect I was making explosives. However I have been advised to get a testimony of good character & I wonder if you would do it for me. As you are aware my only connection with the Volunteers is my friendship with the Plunkett family. I am not and never have been a member of the Volunteers. With many thanks in advance.

Yours sincerely

R.P. O'Connor

P.S. Would you post to 4 New [Bryhten], Monkstown.
