January 10th - Vachel went to Partridges Mill and bought planks from W.T. Warburton Oak 56 Ash 17 Map (ajrub?) along with Monks Map and Brooks History of Mexican War to be delivered Feb 1st 11 - Saturday wrote to Wm McCullough & Ann E. Chandler. Sent W.V.W. Cecil Whig - Was at Elkton - visited Miss Betsey Bucks - Went to Mrs. Harlan's in evening -

12 Sunday - Wrote Job(?) & Deborah Mr Walmsley came up

13 Weather pleasant - At work in shop - Mended Wm Camp bells clock at night

14th Fine weather - Wm V. Wilson here - Hooped wheels for Vachel & Hall - Went down to Mr Prices at night with Milly to see Wm Wilson Aunt Lydia came down

15 Pleasant morning like spring Mended plow for Vachel Went with J.T. & Robinson Galla - here to look at wood lot

16 - Very pleasant - Farmers ploughing Mended plough Alms House Henry Chandler called at noon

17 - Worked in shop - Weather getting colder - painted chair and tubs 18 - Worked in shop in forenoon - Went to Elkton - got letter from N.Y. - Made engagement to go on Manor to survey for Howard Oldham on Monday next

January 19 Sunday At home in forenoon - in after noon heard Mr Helmbold preach at New Leeds - Text 1 Tim 6-12 At night heard him preach at Cherry Hill - "And the multitude cried out, This blood be on us and on our children" -

20th Sleet and rain - Worked in shop. Eliza Tervis married

21 Went to survey for Howard and Oldham on Bohemia Manor Isaac Wilson along - Ran the lines with Roberts & Biddle to Herring Creek - Returned to Elkton at night - Went to debate in Court house - Subject= Usury law Every body Gracious & ? for the debaters - Did not set the river(?) on fire

22 Started for Manor - rain came on at Chesapeake - re turned to Elkton - Walked home in the afternoon - 23 - Cloudy - Killed calf in morning - in afternoon as sisted Vachel in making boring machine - 24 - Went to Manor again and saw line between Oldham & Randel both present - Ran said line from old peach tree pointed out by Jn Beckwith S 77° W 270 1/2 perches to a sprout of Herring Creek - Oldham was displeased with the running, and Randel appeared gratified - Beckwith showed a corner on a place pointed out to him by George Craig as the corner between

January 24 continued

Oldham's land & the land of said Craig (now Randel's land). Said corner being northward of the line just run 7.1 perches. Oldham proposed to Randel to divide the difference equal - Randel wished him to make the proposition in writing - They agreed to divide said 7.1 perches equally and entered into articles of agreement after fixing a stake in the sprout or branch and marked a Hickory tree of about 15 inches diameter bearing N 50 1/2 W 3.5 perches from said Stake and a Black Oak tree of about 10 inches bearing N 58 1/4 E 1 perches from said stake - Said trees are marked and bounded on 4 sides and lettered "G.W.
