Black Students' Union Are you ready? SAN FRANCISCO STATE COLLEGE 1600 HOLLOWAY AVENUE SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA 94132

May 22, 1967 Judie Hart, JoAnn Mitchell Orientation Chairmen, Black Studies

Mr. Bond, This spring semester, the Black Students' Union, an on-campus organization at San Francisco State College, has worked to set up a Department of Black Studies to start in fall, 1967. The course in this curricula will be geared toward the needs of the black student in relation to the community from which they come.

All summer we will be holding weekly workshops on campus for incoming black students for the purpose of establishing a base of information from which black students can move and function within the context of a "college education" in relation to themselves and to the black community.

We would like you to participate in a panel during July on Black Politics in the Black Community. Would you contact us as soon as possible by letter or phone (BSU office 469-1085 or 346-5356).

Yours in blackness, {signed] Judie Hart Judie Hart & JoAnn Mitchell

P. S. If you won't be in town during July, we will pay your travel expenses.

Dear Misses Hart & Mitchell:

Many thanks for your kind letter. It was sent to the SNCC office, instead of my home, and I am just now receiving it.

I'm afraid I won't be out West anytime in the near future.

If I could suggest a substitute I'd like to reccomend either Senator Mervyn Dymally or Assemblyman Bill Greene.

I'm sorry I can't make it, but thank you for asking me and please excuse the late reply

Sincerely
