FISK UNIVERSITY NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE 37203 OFFICE OF THE STUDENT COUNCIL

Mr. Julian Bond Representative to the Georgia House of Representatives Atlanta, Georgia

Dear Mr. Bond,

For some time now, I have been most interested in having you address my fellow students here at Fisk University. I am most interested in having you detail your position regarding the two front war which the Black Man is forced to fight "in the name of Democracy" both at home and abroad.

I have been notified that you will be in Nashville on or about April 5 and 6 for Vanderbilt University's Impact series. I wish to make a formal invitation for you to speak at Fisk at your convenience some time either before or after your scheduled appearence at Vanderbilt.

Our convocation hour is usually Thursday at 11. However, exceptions can be made so that, if you prefer, your presentation would not be in the formal enviornment of a convocation.

I do hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Wilbur C. Hicks President Student Council

Dear Mr. Hicks:

Many thanks for your kind invitation. Please forgive me for not responding sooner.

I would very much like to speak at Fisk. My mother and all of my aunt are alumnae, and the library on the campus was constructed with the aid of a gift from my grandfather. Another grandfather was Chaplain at Fisk for many years, and I had the good fortune to be born at Meharry Hospital.

Unfortunately, the week I'll be at Vanderbilt is an unusually busy one for me, and I hesitate taking another engagement away from Atlanta during that time.

Might it be possible to arrange something before or after that week? at some time

Sincerely,
